Green Room - Week 24 - Day 6

There is still a poll out there, http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/458636.html , to determine who will be moving on. People have been pointing out just how much fiction there is this week. Hopefully that's just how people decided to go with the topic rather than a general direction of the overall season/competition. I guess we will see how things shake out in the coming weeks.

***

I am currently reading the Bryson book "A Walk in the Woods" and just reached his visit to Centralia, Pennsylvania. More precisely, when he talks about the mine fire that started in 1962 and is still burning today.

If I didn't have to wait a season, I would make that a topic in and of itself, it's so interesting.

But since I have you here - what do *you* have burning, deep down inside? ;)

Some folks call that "factional" - true facts at the core, but fictionalized for better readability/sensibility issues.

Quite a few of my pieces are "factional," like the one about the Elephant in the Room from this season. My Nanna did tell me stories about the needlepoint artwork on the walls, and one of them was a white elephant. However, I don't remember details about any of the stories she told me, nor do I remember if the Elephant actually had a name back then. So parts were total fiction, but it was based on fact. *shrug*

Ah man, LJ seriously needs "like" buttons... XD

Until lately, I considered myself a primarily non-fiction writer who dabbled in fiction when all else failed. I'm proud of the ghost pieces I did, as well as the ode to my friend who died, the piece with Java...it's easier for me to like my non-fiction (as long as they aren't really sad, like my friend piece, I feel uncomfortable with sympathy...)

My ghost picture piece is probably one of my favorites. I hadn't expected it to go the way it had and I loved the direction it took :)

*huuuuuuuuuuuuuugggsss* It sounds like you needed one. :)

I adore your rants! Maybe earlier in the season it was more people not having enough time to read everything rather than the content itself that meant you were almost booted.

And hey now, your "Hoff" piece has been one of my favourite entries of yours ever. And that was non-fic from this season!

*hugs* I'm so very, very excited for our adventure this weekend! I'm dying for the day to be over too! I'm like a kid who's birthday or Christmas is tomorrow lol

I'm also just really looking forward to time with you, since it's always a great time when we get together...no matter what we do <3

I can only compare with last season, too, but I definitely think there seems like there's more fiction this season and I'm not really sure why that is. I'm curious to know, though!

Also, [livejournal.com profile] intrepia did a lot of poetry last season, and didn't she place something like 4th? I think last season had more poetry overall, as well as poetry that did better, compared to this season. I almost got voted out for my sonnet and probably would've done had people not been pimping me to keep me in that week.

What do I have burning deep down inside? Nothing a Tums can't handle, LOL.

I also have a burning desire to go fetch a Starbucks, as I got to bed a bit after 2am last night, so need all the caffeine I can hold right now, LOL.

Also, after today I'll be off work for a week. Hubby and I will be having breakfast with his mom this Sunday (for Mother's Day, of course) and afterwards will spend the next 9 hours or so driving up to Niagara Falls. We plan on riding the Maid of the Mist, going to the Lucille Ball museum somewhere in the vicinity, and searching the Canadian souvenir shops for a smooshed-face Wax Lion (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0750413/).

My two pence:
All art is a representation of the world through the lens of the artist, is it not?

In other news, I passed my two star canoe/kayak last night!! This is Good News because I needed it for my coaching course that I'm doing in a few weeks time. So, yay!! :D
Now I have to go to work. Boo @ McDonald's.

[livejournal.com profile] beeker121 is very good at that and I love her all the more for it!

I, for one, am glad you decided to dip your toes into the fiction waters. I think you have turned out some really great pieces, honey. And the fact that I'm your boyfriend doesn't make that statement any less true or valid!!! :-p

[identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well by enough material, it wasn't just length...but actual content. I could gave fictionalized it, sure...but it wasn't working...it just didn't feel right. I started something for all three ideas I mentioned. Though the third idea that you like, didn't cone to me until an hour before I needed to be in bed the night before the deadline (with little time to work the next day, and let it be noted that I spend hours a day on my entries usually). I had this one written already, was just getting feedback and editing suggestions.

Trust me, if anything had worked, I'd have went that direction. As I told you, this weeks piece was a struggle. It came out better than I expected, but I couldn't gave done it without Java's help. I was very close to going out this week opposed to posting this particular entry, but his suggestions made things better.

For whatever reason, this topic was hard for me. I couldn't like anything I started :$

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I can't tell you how many times I've read a piece and was like all "DOH!" until I saw the fiction tag and was like all "DUH!" after that. :-p

[identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like so much fun!!! I really want to see Niagra Falls one day!

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I blending seasons? lol... I dunno, last season went so long that it just sort of blurred into this one I suppose. :-p

I actually felt like there was a lot more poetry this season. Strange. I'd really like to know how poetry stacked up last season v this season. lol...

And yeah, I'm not sure why fiction seems to be flourising this season but selfishly, I'm really glad to see it. lol... But it is curious and I'd like to know why too!

[identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, sweetheart *hugs* I'm glad you've enjoyed my fiction at times. I'm thankful that you've been there to help me improve on my fiction :)

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
lol... you and [livejournal.com profile] pixie117 might be the only ones who do! :-p

I don't know why it did so poorly... maybe it was just written poorly? I dunno! I always thought that rants were one of my strengths. But after that near-disaster, I got a little gunshy about them.

lol... oh the "Hoff" piece... it cracks me up just remembering that whole scene. lol... Freaking [livejournal.com profile] tigrkittn found that episode and texted me a screenshot from it and threatened to release it to the Idolverse. I almost soiled myself!!! lol... As for the entry itself, I honestly don't remember how it did. I think it ended up fairly middle of the pack.

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh you better come back!!!

[identity profile] comedychick.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, well, now that you've got the idea, maybe it'll fit another topic ;)

I'm glad you didn't drop, anyway!

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
lol... well don't be the kid who stays up all night waiting for Santa... we gotta be in tip-top shape tomorrow if we want to win!!! :-)

Spending time with you is always wonderful and it will be really nice to get away for a couple of days. :-)

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Misssssssssssssssssssssss you!

[identity profile] sra33.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*huuuuuuugssss* omg me too, I've been in hardcore hermit mode lately, getting a little lonely, hahaha

[identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it's an idea all right. I'll keep it in mind. I do have a story that's happened recently that I really, really want to share. A happy story about my family that I'm dying to share. I just hope the topic comes up to let me do it :)

I wouldn't have really dropped. I'm too stubborn for that :p

[identity profile] comedychick.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there was only like a two month break, so you very well could be :P

I have read some pretty darned incredible fiction this season... but it is almost getting to saturation point where I'm finding myself wondering what happened to all the non-fiction. I like a good mixture of both. I wouldn't want only non-fiction either.

If only someone could shed some light on why there seems to be more fiction! It may be something that can only be answered by each individual person, answering the question, "Why do you choose to write fiction rather than non-fiction (at any given time, not necessarily overall)?" Because I don't think it's some big groupthink everyone is having where TPTB has made us all decide to write fiction at this point or that point. ;)
