Green Room - Week 27 - 1

Good morning.

In case you missed it last night, not only were the results posted/run off announced: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/342217.html
but the new topic was also posted: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/342300.html

I do give advice now and then. Mostly I just throw out information and let people sort it out for themselves. Sometimes they get it "right" and sometimes they get it "right for them".

But there is one thing that I say early on that I think needs to be said again: You want your favorites to stick around? Make sure to vote for them.
Not "is so and so safe? OK, good."
There are immunities flying around, and the way things tend to get in the last couple of hours when people realize "OMG my favorite is at risk!!" - it just makes it all that much more important.
Unless you are willing to live with the saying goodbye to writers that you want to see go further in the game - make sure to vote for all of your favorite entries all the time.

Even more to the point - tell other people about them. People feel differently about pimping - and I'm biased, more positive attention being generated toward Idol and the quality of writers who compete here is something that I enjoy. But considering how much times 1 or 2 votes have made the difference - considering that "the pack" is only about 10 votes shy of "the top" - if you read something cool, tell people "Go read THIS".

You don't have to even mention voting. If it makes enough of an impact on them, they will likely click that clicky box. :)

As I said - the number of opinions on "pimping" and what does and doesn't go "over the line" are varied. It's one of the many ethical questions (along with things like "how much will I do to get one more step ahead and what is more important - supporting quality or winning?" and other hits) that come up as a natural part of the process. Dealing with them for yourself, and finding a place that you are comfortable (within reason, based on community precedent), is part of the process as well - and IMO one more part of what makes Idol special.

So in other words - support your favorites. They need you - and make sure to spread the word about what makes them so gosh darn engaging to read! ;)

So - Thursday. How about that?

How are you doing today?

I'm breathing, patiently waiting for coffee, and still editing. I'm also sad to see bax, tamaraland, and hug_machine go; my commenting is sporadic, but I read every week, and every week you guys delivered interesting perspectives and fun!

Hi Green Room! *waves*

Holy crap, how is it nearly the end of May? When did that happen? Yeah, let me just say that my getting voted out of Idol happened at the right time 'cause I'd have missed a deadline or three. ;-)

Me? I'm good. No, scratch that, I'm great. I'm in a fabulous relationship that may end up getting written about this week for the topic for a home game entry. :) Work is taking off and I'm currently working on a huge project for a new yarn company who came and sought me out for this project specifically. Which is pretty darned awesome.

Okay, now I should get back to work, it's already been a busy morning here. I've started laundry, started the marinade for tonight's dinner and now need to sit down and rework some sketches and ideas. Later all!

Only one topic? In week 27? Slackers.

Just remember the week is young *grin*

I am back at work, but still sick. Feeling miserable, but here.

For me, it's at the point in the competition where I'm pretty much guaranteed to be saying goodbye to people whose writing I have been enjoying. It's strange... but I am accepting it as part of the process. I mean, really, after playing with people for 7 months, it's strange to see any name go.

Me? I like to put up rec lists and hope that my friends read the posts. It might not be in my best interest in terms of the competition--but I think that it's more important to share good writing and encourage a spirit of comraderie.

Um. I dunno if I have any more to say. It's hard to think when my head feels stuffed with cotton.

Just call me Speedy Gonzalez. I have my Home Game piece all written and posted in my journal already! Had something ( good) come up yesterday after work that I wanted to share, and I tied it in to "Why?" anyway.
Grey's Anat season finale is tonight. Yay for TV.
Oh, and American Idol!!!!! Yesssssss!!!!!!
A week ago, when Big Mike got the boot, that sucked. IMO, Casey might have the hottie country thing going on, but Mike has a velvety, dreamy voice. Casey sounds like a nervous sheep, like the Pearl Jam guy. Big Mike is Mel Torme' Xed with Michael McDonald. Big Mike shoulda been belting out that Halleujah song. Lee absolutely did not dissapoint. He surprised everyone and rocked the house. He has earned his top two status as has Chrystal. I'll be happy with whatever outcome now.

And wow! The sun is out today. 1 st time in five days, and I get off work EARLY!!!!! Whoo Hooo!
Ate fresh garden strawberries for my breakfast too. Mmmmmmm.....
AW

It is really traumatic to lose people I love to read now, but we're at the point where I enjoy everybody's that's left. Everyone that goes now will be one of my favorites, so right now it is sadly up to may the best post of the week win for me.

It's just that close.

I'm amazed that I've lasted this long!

Maybe he's just giving them a breather before having THREE topics next week! ;)

HOORAY THURSDAY.

Closer to Friday than we were yesterday, and dang, that is a GREAT feeling.

Our little dude lost his little league playoffs yesterday. His team lost by 7 runs, and unfortunately, his triple was what knocked them out. He was rounding to third and got tagged. Poor guy ran up to his daddy and BAWLED.

Has anyone attended children's sports recently? Those parents are RIDICULOUS. Yelling at kids, yelling at each other, yelling at the 15-year-old umps. When did kids' sports get to be so ugh?

[identity profile] stormkitty.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I just posted my home game entry, too. Funny how some topics come up and you're like, "Oh! Perfect!" There have been a few since I left the competition that I've thought, "Oh, thank the writing gods I don't have to do that one!" LOL!

[identity profile] stormkitty.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and my home game entry is up. :)

[identity profile] chite.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! yeah. That's the stuff.

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I picked up some Panera bagels for my team this morning - nom nom nom!

Also, today our Morale Committee is providing fried chicken for lunch for the building, although each team or individual is responsible for providing their own side items. Still - free chicken!

Boy, I'm glad I watched AI last night, otherwise this would be really spoilerific!

FWIW, I liked Big Mike better than Casey too, although I've been rooting for Crystal ever since day one.

[identity profile] cacophonesque.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hope that's not the case until we're at least down to 10 people. One of the joys of the pack thinning has been that I don't have to READ so many entries.

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I hear you on that! On the one hand, at least if there are multiple topics that means multiple polls, and of course it depends on how much time we're given to read and vote.

[identity profile] furzicle.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, now that there aren't so many participants, I certainly hope everyone is reading everything. It would be pretty sad if someone is not reading them all.

I also try to mention the vote in my journal because I have (one or two) family members who do very occasionally vote and I want them to know when to do it.

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy first post!!!!

YAY for him being back

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah..now everyone can complain about June weather soon... *smirks*

June's a busy month in the SF Bay Area (gay pride in SF, several film festivals and everything under the sun)

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh heh...shhh don't give Gary ideas....

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
we had to stop eating bagels regularly - too fattening and too much sugar (and it's the cream cheese we like)

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*countdown to Friday* that's all I'm saying...

Carrie & Claudia are gonna start house hunting this weekend - wootness. Plus today will be the last sunny day for a while (so the meteorologists say)

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't eat bagels too often, maybe once or twice a month. Most mornings I have either toast or an English muffin with cream cheese - all the cheesy goodness with fewer carbs!

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay dragons!

And Uruguay, wow - talk about frequent flier miles!
