Green Room - Week 10 - Day 1

Good morning and welcome back to the game!

Yes, I'll go ahead and confirm the obvious that the new topic will be out later today!

I haven't had a "break" in the game before, so I'm hoping that people convince me that it's a good idea by all coming back!*G*

So how was everyone's extended weekend? How are you planning on getting by this week?*G*

[identity profile] heykatie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo first! :) My first first! YAY!

I didn't get much of an extended weekend, as I had to go in on Friday, but I did leave at 1 PM, so I got two days and four hours off. ;)

I is tired. Is it can be weekend yet?

In other news, after 4 months apart, I get to see my husband in 29 days!!! YAY!

a first first, woot!

I love handing these out.

YAY!

Congratulations!

ETA: I bet you can't wait to see your cutie-pie sweetie either.

Yay, first!!!

Yay for seeing husband! Whee! Congrats on "First!" too!

[identity profile] deza.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for seeing your husband! Mine's been gone for two months now, and won't be back until sometime next year.

[identity profile] deza.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. They can't tell me exactly where he is.

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ick. Is he special forces or something?

My ex-husband used to give me cryptic clue/non-clue type references to give me a general idea.

[identity profile] deza.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
He's not Spec or anything, bu there is some OpSec involved. I generally find out where he's been a day or so after he leaves. Part of the territory, you know?

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Ex wasn't spec either, but he was comm attached to a spec unit.

[identity profile] deza.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ew, not fun. Even when you know they're in a relatively safe area, there's still a level of concern. I'll just be glad when the Hubster is in the same hemisphere again.

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
I know the feeling. Ex-hubster was always somewhere in Southeast Asia or the Pacific Islands, but you never know where trouble can crop up.

How much longer does he have in?

[identity profile] deza.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
He's six years in, going for his 20.
My dad was career Navy, too, so at least I knew what I was getting into. I really feel sorry for the girls I see that marry their high school sweethearts right after enlistment. Poor things generally have no idea what to expect.

Hmmm, at some point I need to make a Navy icon.

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Eek, Navy? Mine was Army, so he was home a lot except when he was on deployment or stationed overseas. I hear Navy is a lot tougher because so much more of it is separation. Kudos to you for being able to do it - I don't think I could have.
ahavah: (Grinch)

[personal profile] ahavah 2008-12-01 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Again?

Damn.

Well, I personally really appreciated the break. I mean to write a post, but then I got in a funk for Thanksgiving, then preoccupied with NaNo. I think the moment of non-pressure from at least one direction was just what the doctor ordered.

It's Monday. Bah.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Monday's are only bad if you have somewhere to be. Me.. I have to be up for someone else, but other than the television schedule changing, the day is mostly the same.

But I remember what Mondays were like... so I have empathy for those who still hate them.

Sorry... can we do anything to help?

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Make all my depressives stop whining?

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Hmmm...

Give them ponies?

[identity profile] jenandbronze.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
can you help with my depressives too?

The only good thing about this Monday, OMG, Food ... at a Christmas luncheon I went to.

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*are you sure you want an answer to that question*?

*s*

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. I am feeling much better. Perhaps because it is Monday, and we are 14 days to *mumble* and...

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
OH yes...you're on the countdown.. :-)

You gotta be excited - but so many things to do..so little time...

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding!

I am trying to squeeze 6 weeks of planning into 2.

OY!

[identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, I'm here before work and with only a few comments in? Awesomesauce!

I feel a little guilty about not writing for the "free" week, but I decided since I was so busy and I didn't have to use a bye, I may as well take advantage and skip it. I knew writing about what I was "thankful" over in such a crazy hard year was going to be weird and difficult.

I had a fabulous weekend despite the rain and did take advantage of Friday. I did go into work for appearance sakes, but "sneaked out" at 11:30. Had great adventures.

Anyone else do any trespassing? I did. 'Twas fun.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Where did you trespass?

[identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's called "The Batcave".

It's an abandoned building off the Gowanus Canal. It's completely illegal to even enter the area it's in.

Google "batcave brooklyn"

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*kinda felt the same way*...But then most of the week I wasn't out front - Carrie's been with her family/friends from back home all week.

*although I do recall getting stuck out front while visiting a multiple friend of ours*...

We even went to the mall during Black Friday

[identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I almost went to the mall on Black Friday! Simply for people watching. Crazy milfs and hottie mchottie teenagers running around and all that.

Instead I went to Brooklyn with my good friend and broke some laws.

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
heh heh

"I'll be bahck."
Yes, I am feeling better. Thank you, everyone for the *hugs* and such.

My weekend was restful, after all. This week will be spent (can we all guess) packing!

14 days and counting until we close on our new house. Then the real fun of moving begins. I will try to talk about something OTHER than that for the next couple of weeks, I promise.

But no, glad you're feeling better :) Good luck packing and closing and all that!

Thank you, beautiful.

I mean, I could talk about how fabulous my Realtor [livejournal.com profile] chite is. That counts as different, right?

Re: Mornin'

She totally rocks. She has done everything we have asked of her, and worries more than I think is healthy *grin* about the sale. Probably more than we do (well, more than me), but I am confident it is going to work out.

She plays a good game of Scrabble, and is a super-duper Mom to her son too.

But soon I will have a guest suite you will be able to come and stay in. Or, you can use the family room and bring Santino.

Welcome back? You mean people actually left? I've been sitting here waiting for some action, MAN!
Silly Thanksgiving or what have you ;)

It's ... Monday. We've gone grocery shopping, little one is sleeping (and has been for an hour!!!), I'm looking over a translation in Dutch someone else screwed up a little when she did the lay-out and this is the final proof so I'll have to go in, just what I needed, and hope to have the English one done by tomorrow. Busy! Make it an easy topic, in other words ;)

[identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I already have a feeling I know what the topic is.

Want me to whisper it in your ear? Actually... I could PM it to you, and we can see if I am right in a little bit.

Done.

[identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was kinda hoping you'd give us the topic early, since we had the time off and I need a fix missed the game.

[identity profile] jfargo.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Family wasn't too tough to handle, even if I did mess up two out of the seven dishes I was making. Mashed potatoes just aren't my specialty, and the asparagus got overdone because my timing was thrown off by the turkey cooking MUCH faster than I expected.

Still, the turkey that I put in a brine overnight was a hit, despite worries from family who had never had it done that way. The mashed sweet potatoes/yams were a huge hit, and the rest at least got a passable mark. I'm content with that outcome.

I don't know if we'll be hosting Thanksgiving again next year, but if so I'll be ready. I'll have a recipe for mashed potatoes!

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Next year I plan to cook a large dinner (in my new house) for lots of family (who will come to my new house) and I will need a turkey recipe (to cook in my new kitchen).

Will you share?

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Will we be invited, Sis-o-mine? :)

[identity profile] jfargo.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the recipe given to me by an LJ friend, but I didn't do it exactly as they suggested. I cut the amount of salt by about 1/4, and didn't use the 5 gallon bucket, since I have a large stock pot I could use.

Ingredients:
1 gallon vegetable broth
1 cup sea salt
1.5 tbs crushed dried rosemary
1.5 tbs dried sage
1 tbs dried thyme
1 tbs dried savory
1 tbs whole peppercorns
1 gallon ice water

Yields enough for a 12 lb turkey. One-an-half or completely double the recipe for a larger bird.

In a large stock pot, combine the vegetable broth, sea salt, rosemary, sage, thyme, peppercorns and savory. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently to be sure salt is dissolved. Remove from heat, and let cool to room temperature.

When the broth mixture is cool, pour it into a clean 5 gallon bucket. Stir in the ice water.

Wash and dry your turkey. Make sure you have removed the innards. Place the turkey, breast down, into the brine. Make sure that the cavity gets filled. Place the bucket in the refrigerator overnight.

Remove the turkey carefully draining off the excess brine and pat dry. Discard excess brine.

Cook the turkey as desired reserving the drippings for gravy. Keep in mind that brined turkeys cook 20 to 30 minutes faster so watch the temperature gauge.

[identity profile] jfargo.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
After it's been brined, if you want an even more flavorful roast, you can do the following:

3/4 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons garlic powder (optional)
2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon ground sage
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups water

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F

In a small bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, dried basil, ground sage, salt, and black pepper. Using a basting brush, apply the mixture to the outside of the uncooked turkey. Pour water into the bottom of the roasting pan, and cover.

Bake for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the thigh measures 170 degrees F. Remove bird from oven, and allow to stand for at LEAST 30 minutes before carving.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
My kids are going to love you.

[identity profile] jfargo.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs*

I've actually never made a turkey before Thanksgiving.

Without tooting my own horn, it was the best turkey I've ever had. :)

[identity profile] firesign10.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My turkey cooked fast too! But came out fine.

My husband is in charge of the mashed potatoes. His sekrit weapon - the Kitchen Aid! OM NOM NOM so good!

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually if I'm making a whole bag of potatoes, I use almost an entire stick of butter and somewhere between a half and a whole cup of milk (depending on the consistancy). And I use the salt shaker 3 times, tasting after every time I mix.

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I use more butter and less milk.

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
My mashed potatoes are easy and yumm-o! Alas, I somehow managed to screw up the Pepperidge Farm stuffing - came out too dense... ah well.

For the mashed taters:
I used about 6-7 large potatoes (to feed 4-6 people, with leftovers); peel and cut into smaller pieces; put into a pot of COLD water, just enough water to cover the potatoes. Cover the pot (water boils faster that way) and bring to a boil. Uncover, reduce heat to medium, and cook until fork-tender (ie: if you can easily stick a fork into one of the larger pieces, it's done).

Drain the potatoes, then return to the pot. Add 1 to 1-1/2 sticks of butter (cut into slices), stir in. Add about 1/2 cup of milk or half-n-half. Get out the electric handmixer and beat until smooth (yes, right in the pot), adding more milk if needed to achieve a good consistency. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve and enjoy!

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pretty much the way I do it.

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall nom your potatoes! *nom nom nom*

*Burp*

Very good!
ahavah: (I taste so good)

[personal profile] ahavah 2008-12-01 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you mess up mashed potatoes? I'll chime in with my recipe:

Wash & chop taters. I don't even bother peeling. Too much work, I suck at peeling, it wastes taters AND nutrients. Chop those suckers in there.

Boil til mushy. Meanwhile, also boil yourself some eggs. That's the secret ingredient.

When taters are mushy, pour in some milk and glop in some butter. I like creamy potatoes, so I use liberal milk & butter (especially for holidays :P). Salt & pepper lightly.

Shell hard boiled eggs, and dice up just the egg WHITES. Throw those in the taters. I thought it would be gross when my hubby tried that, but it is sooooooooo good. I prefer them diced up pretty small, to keep it creamier rather than chunkier.

Fini.

Now...maybe you could tell me how to cook sweet potatoes? Cause I have some and don't know what to do with them. LOL I don't like sweet taters. I was thinking maybe fries, but mashed may be yummy too.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I always make sweet potatoes the same way.

1. bake in a 400F oven for about an hour (give or take). the slice is to keep it from exploding from the build-up of steam inside the skin.
2. they are done when the skin peels away

I either serve them right in the skin [slice down the middle, butter and cinnamon, mash] or I remove the skins, scrape into a bowl, and serve mashed that way.
ahavah: (*LOL*)

[personal profile] ahavah 2008-12-01 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I was trying to show kids different root vegetables we could try, then I brought them home and realized I had no clue how to make them yummy.

Mashed potatoes

[identity profile] baxaphobia.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The mashed potato recipe I used this Thanksgiving was wonderful but it is definitely rich.

8 red potatoes washed, and cut into quarters (leave the skins on if desired)
1 pkg cream cheese softened
1 cup sour cream
garlic powder
salt
1 boullion cube or chicken base to taste

Boil potatoes til tender. Remove 1/2 cup of the potato liquid and set aside. Drain potatoes.
Disolve boullion into liquid.
Mash potatoes to desired texture. Add all other ingredients and mix well.

Put in crock pot on low for 2-3 hours. Yum!
ahavah: (I like pretty things)

Re: Mashed potatoes

[personal profile] ahavah 2008-12-01 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, I'm going to have to try that. I've had mashed potatoes with sour cream, which was way yummier than I expected to be. I imagine the other stuff would only make it so much better.

[identity profile] jfargo.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to give you the recipe even though I'm fairly late coming with the answer, but I see that [livejournal.com profile] spydielives has done a fine job with a recipe. They're really quite simple. :)

My weekend was lovely. We did very little. Spent the evening Thursday with friends, went home, didn't emerge again until Sunday!

My poor Drake (Schnauzer) seems to have an ear infection. He kept me up all night scratching at it....must call vet today.

This week I plan on getting by with as little effort as possible!

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)

Nixon is just getting over one, and is on medication for a month instead of a week, the first round, which I didn't seem to think that was actually... uh, ... enough for him to get rid of it.

[identity profile] thepheenixeyri.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
by going out shopping. :d For Christmas gifts and other things.

The phoenix proke several comp rules last night and had coffee over by her comp. She thought she had her leak proof coffee cup sealed...

But not so much. So now the keyboard on her laptop is "royally fucked."

... Um... :d I actually thought it was going to be worse; when I first fired up the laptop it wasn't doing shit. Wouldn't turn on, wouldn't do *anything*. Needless to say I was not pleased; my nano is on there and I hadn't yet had a chance to back it all up to lj and the hard drive. I did get it to fire later on that day and managed to save the stuff I wanted to. I'm going in today to have the Geek Squad take a look at it among other things. I have a few other questions for them as well, and I'm hoping that it'll be productive. :d

Needless to say I was whigging out just a bit yesterday (not now; on a dexktop which I can't totally use at the moment because it doesn't have a full running version of office 03 and I don't want 07) and I think it showed in a phone convo I was having with someone.

Oh and due to these issues I did *not* get to turn in my word count for nano, so according to the site I am not a winner this year. In other ways, though I feel like I am. I managed to get a substantial amount of words written around a crazy batshit insane November, I reached 30K which was my actual goal for the month, so I'm proud of me.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe you are a winner if you reach YOUR goal.

And I am proud of you too!

I spilled Sprite on my laptop keyboard a few years ago. I turned it on its side where I had spilled so that it could drain, but it was still sticky for quite some time.

*hopes that your compie can be fixed!*

[identity profile] thepheenixeyri.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No such luck. Best Buy only services the comps that have been purchased from there. They would've had to send it away to get it fixed. I suppose I could use a USB keyboard with it, but ya know...

and it's screwed. I turned it upside down, and when I pres the keys now they don't do what they're supposed to. It *does* work with a USB, though.

Oh, since I'm here, did you se nd me a thing for ads you (SP) a couple of days ago? Just curious...

Gods typing on desktop keybord feals weird!

*shocked at the numbers if those are correct!*

Re: Unofficial Stats

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The interesting comparison is between the first set of numbers (original split of Vets/New players) and the last set of numbers (current split of Vets/New players).

While it can be easy to manipulate numbers, I think this shows that new players are not getting the recognition they deserve.

Re: Unofficial Stats

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Verrrry interesting. The vets started out outnumbered about 2-1/2 to 1, and now we're at exactly 2 to 1 vs the newbies. Bwa-ha-ha!

Re: Unofficial Stats

[identity profile] theafaye.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
76% of the new players are gone? Wow. Then as far as I'm concerned, however much further I get now is a complete and utter bonus.

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*obviously not first*...

Ugh...been away from the office for a week -- so umm...it'll take me a while to go through all of the emails and figure out where are all of the technicians are - etc.

Plus I'm hoping for good job news soon...

*nice weekend though*

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I will keep good thoughts in my head for you on the job front.

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Boss talked to us week before we left...it's kind of up to his boss' boss right now

Hullo!!.How's the fierce Wok???

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually am AWAKE! Since Wednesday I've been on a regular schedule of waking up somewhat early. It's been really nice. :^)

I'm off to bake cookies, do laundry, and clean today. And to make french toast and bacon for dinner. ;)

[identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
French Toast -- YUM!

I'm not expecting any decisions were made during the week we were out...

[identity profile] libra-dragon.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Morning...
extended weekend was nice and much needed but sadly had to come back on Saturday rather then Sunday. I guess in the end it was o.k. coming back early as we got snow and that would not have been fun to drive in for 3 hours.

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's the first day of deer season here. All of the schools are still on vacation. And I, the Wok, am going to clean and do laundry.

I did finally get the tree put up yesterday. It looks fabulous. (John's mad at me; I put the regular red, green, and white balls on the tree instead of the homemade funky ornaments. I just wanted a tree where it didn't look like a pollock threw up. *g*)

I may also make more cookies today. And since I didn't get to do it last week... French toast and bacon for dinner. YAY!!!

[identity profile] boxsofrain.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness, it is so hard to be back at work. Someone kill me!

[identity profile] boxsofrain.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
p.s. The cinnabon coffee from Dunkin Donuts is helping me though. :)

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I send you cookies and cocoa instead? Because I like having you around... ;)

[identity profile] boxsofrain.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You are so sweet! I like having you around too. :)
Cookies and cocoa would do the trick.

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I has chocolate chip, peanut butter, and snickerdoodles... *passes some of each*

*Smacks Gary over head with cane*

[identity profile] boxsofrain.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Jealous, Gary? Is that why you made the topic about me this week. ;)

[identity profile] supremegoddess1.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
...and we would want you dead, why exactly? ;)

[identity profile] boxsofrain.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
You are so nice. :)

[identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I just whip you really hard instead?

[identity profile] deza.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Careful--there are some people floating around LJ that would really enjoy that treatment.

[identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I know, I dated one.

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
ZOMG THE STEELERS BEAT THE PATS YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1!!!!!!!1!!!

You can now all return to your scheduled Green Room. :^p

:P

Man, I really need a Pats icon.

Because I'm still a Pats girl even when they suck.

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You should come to Pittsburgh and see the light. Or at least see the Polamalu hair. *g*

[personal profile] tryslora 2008-12-01 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I grew up in the era when the Pats sucked (welcome to the 80s). And then they had a brief shining moment and embarrassed themselves in the Superbowl and went back to obscurity. I figure if I made it through that and am still a fan... I'm stuck with them in my heart for good. *grins*

The part where they swapped personalities with the Giants during post-season play last year and haven't swapped back is kinda weird. But my husband's enjoying it.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... I got smacked yesterday (TWICE) for rooting for the wrong team.

I pointed out I had divided loyalties.

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Is Blues a Pats fan?! o_O

At least Gary is on my side... ;)

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
We both lived in New England for years and years. We are both Patriots fan(atic)s.

I pointed out that during yesterday's game, I had divided loyalties and he should be happy I was at least paying attention!

[identity profile] firesign10.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
A great weekend here - low-key festivity, a much cleaner house (it's remarkable what one does when company is anticipated!), delicious food, nice relaxing family time. A win all around!

Today, my daughter is off to school, husband is off to work, and son has kindergarten this afternoon. I'll be getting the kitchen back in order (I kept up so well all weekend and yesterday I took the day off!) and going to my music lesson at noon. I didn't practice much this week, but what are ya gonna do....

I really enjoyed writing my giving thanks post. What's on tap for this week?

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm debating on making a Christmas icon to use for the Christmas season. Maybe a tree, a gingerbread cookie, or something... *goes off to ponder*

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, I has new icon!

[identity profile] brightflashes.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe I see that you got one - I was thinking the same thing. I have a few extra slots for icons, but I don't know... ::still pondering::.

Morning. Yep. It is. *tired*

I liked the break. I kinda disappeared from LJ almost entirely this weekend except for catching up on book and movie reviews (and thus, my LJ is utterly boring right now).

I dreamed this morning that we already had a topic, something about New Beginnings, and I was writing an entry because I was almost too late, but I was writing it for this journal as me instead of in Pels' journal for them. I woke up wondering if I'd missed something.

I am spending this morning being a flake and writing up a Christmas list of CDs I want. The sad part is, I'm not including everything and it is still very VERY long, even after the complete blitz I've been on buying music lately.

[identity profile] tigrkittn.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanksgiving dinner was... not quite a disaster but not good. Enjoyed spending time with our friends for a few hours, and spent the rest of the weekend trying to cajole husband out of the holiday funk that always hits him this time of year. Was unsuccessful. Will have depressed husband for the next four or five weeks, unless he gets a job in that time. Job would help.

Glad to hear so many of you had great family time- that's nice :)

[identity profile] oberonia.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't really get an extended weekend, but it was relatively ok.

My dogs got into a fight and Boston gave Sherwood a new scratch across his nose. And I accidentally stabbed myself in the eye this morning, so now everything is blurry and haloed.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my! Stabbed yourself in the eye - are you going to be ok?!?!?

[identity profile] brightflashes.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep meaning to ask if your lj screen name comes from Oberon (King of Shadows and Fairies) either the myth or the BPAL scent or if it was something else? BPAL made a scent of Oberon and it's one of my favorites. : )

[identity profile] oberonia.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither actually...sort of. :) The Oberonia (http://www.pnh.com.ph/category/6-Plants-and-Orchids/112-OBERONIA-page-1.html) is a miniature orchid that was named after Oberon. They look like this:

They also come in varieties of red and yellow and such.

[identity profile] brightflashes.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh very cool. That explains why bergamont is in the blend of Oberon with BPAL. : ) Thanks for letting me know - just something that always popped into my head when I saw your lj handle. : )

[identity profile] brightflashes.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And I totally didn't mean to be rude by basically ignoring your post. Stabbing yourself in the eye!? owie owie owie!!!!!

[identity profile] jenandbronze.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yah owie, now you can see how I see halos and blurry vision every day! No fun... where's that door, "whack!".. oh, there it i... Ow.

[identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
They are lovely!

Oh, God, food. No food.

I've spent the better part of the holiday weekend trying not to throw up...

[identity profile] ewok-626.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
*hands over some pepto-bismol for the upset tummy*

How about some tea?

Ah, thank you!

Steals lots and lots of coffee and pain killers...

wait... there's no pain killers?

I'm going back to sleep. Oh wait... I'm at work.... *sigh*

Morning all! I hope that everyone is having a good Monday. My day is just starting. Not certain how I'm going to spend it. Looking forward to the new topic. :)

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The break from reading tons of entries was nice - thanks!

I plan on getting by this week the same way as I get by all of my other weeks: do my work, sneak online at work whenever feasible, eat lunch & read a book, go home and get online, eat dinner, watch tv, and go to bed far too late!

Oh, and somewhere in there get the new and much-anticipated Idol topic, then write it up, post it, and wait and wait and read and read and read and wait, and hopefully survive another week.

Rinse, lather, repeat... hopefully I'll make the Top 25 this time!

[identity profile] baxaphobia.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Good morning! Here I am at work. I've had to put out one fire and hopefully it's over but one never knows. It's the first of the month so all of my reports are due. Lovely! haha. My 10 o'clock appointment cancelled so I'm a happy woman! Hope everyone had a good weekend and has a good day!

[identity profile] brightflashes.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait... you've had to put out ONE fire and you might need to put out more? You have one interesting job. : P

If you knew my staff and others around you would understand. Sometimes I feel Like i'm in kindergarten.
