So, are people voting for the final entries on their own merit, or for the body of work as a whole?

I'll admit that I've had one of the finalists firmly in mind for a long time now, but at this point, I'm truly torn. All three of them are fantastic at what they do, and their styles are incredibly different. So now, now, I'm all like... how do I choose? How do I select only one idol from among them? It's going to be an agonizing decision to make!

As for voting...personally, I am voting on the entire body of work, including this last weeks, not just the final entry.

You're going to get in trouble, we didn't get voting instructions yet. I just logged on because I was getting curious and wanted to ask. *G* any hints?

The final entries are going to be what are linked.

But considering that the final entry is them making the case for *why* they (and the others) should win, obviously people should be taking into account everything that goes along with it.

The way it should be IMHO thanks for clarifying that.

I find it interesting to see that people are voting in different fashions...but I guess it's not that unusual, since people have set their own criteria for voting all along, and in some cases that has counted just continuing to vote for a friend or someone you liked early on.

Personally, I think it's a round to round thing. And this is the most important round...it's the fucking final. You don't give the super bowl trophy to the team that had the best season...you give it to the person who shows up in the final round. Spelling bees aren't based on cumulative count of words spelled...it's who is still there at the end. Marathons are not awarded to the person who runs the best for the first 25 miles and cruises in at the end.... You get the picture.

I'd never followed Idol before, but I looked back at the old contests before I joined this one, and I thought about this post a lot--you know, just in case I wasn't taken out be a not-so-secret alliance.

To me, the winner is the person who made it here AND who can fucking destroy this final topic. You've been playing the game with the other 2 people since early fall...you've (allegedly) been reading all their entries for months...you should be able to come up with something special to say about your competitors...even if you hate them, you should at least be able to make your "so-an-so is a complete asshole" speech memorable.

Interesting points, I'm still waiting for the specific voting instructions which should accompany the poll.
My curiosity continues to be piqued by you references to the super secret alliance. I'm still baffled by what's in it for them. Do they get a percentage of the winning icon.

I'd be shocked if there were specific voting instructions...Gary has always been very good at letting people decide what's important to them, in my opinion...in fact, I think a lot of the people who got all worked up early on were mad because Gary did NOT tell people exactly how to vote.

Like I said, in my opinion, 3 people got to the finals, and their previous work is what got them to THIS point, but it does not carry them through this round...they have to leave it all on the field, so to speak.

Hell if I know what people get out of super secret alliances...other than the pleasure of perhaps seeing their guy (gal) win?

The point being that you can sit there and tell someone "vote on THIS criteria" - but when you break it down, there's absolutely no way to know *why* someone picks one entry or another - or one person or another.

Maybe it all goes back to week one and something used the word "rhino" in a sentence and you became BFF. Maybe there's something compelling to you in the way they write.

Anyone who tells you *how to vote* and sets up criteria for it is completely on crack if they think that everyone is actually following it.

People are going to do what they want to do. The best thing, IMO, is to acknowledge it and be honest about the process.

It's how *every* decision in the world, that isn't made by you, works!

Maybe they mapped out and planned the invasion, or maybe someone's finger slipped on a trigger and started a war!

I agree...imagine if you had told that crazy Parisian that from now on you will monitor all voting and it will only judged on the Current Entry and each person will weight their vote based on the following formula:

50% - Grammar and spelling
25% - Content as it relates to the topic
25% - Style

There would have been such an argument about the percentages, and then whether or not everyone was following the percentages...

And, as I confessed earlier, I only started voting for Chite because I liked her hat and glasses!

Um, *cough*, that's actually been suggested to me *more than once* that a point system was the way to go to "be fair".

Most of them had a breakdown very much like that one you posted.

Not only about the percentages themselves, but "style" and "content as it relates to the topic" are no holds bar subjective. For that matter "grammar and spelling" have some wiggle room. Especially in an online community. (no u may not have cheezburger!!!)

People would be having the same arguments they have now over, and would ultimately be making it the same way you do now, by how seeing how many dust mites settle on the screen while you are reading!*g*

(and I'm not even bringing any of the Hilton family into this, I'm talking reasonably stable people would end up getting into it over that kind of break down and how so-and-so "obviously did not know" about such and such rule of blah blah blah... I don't even want to think about how you it would if you brought in the more anal retentive completely off their meds folks into the equation!!!)

plus, what some people seem to ignore, is that some of us elect to choose atypical grammar as part of our style...if Cormac McCarthy and Irvine Welsh don't need quote marks, neither do I!
