It was only a matter of time before we hit a week with multiple bye-outs again. It makes sense that it happened when we had an afternoon deadline. It still sucks, but it makes sense.

As for the rest of you, things are getting more and more real every week as the numbers dwindle. The temperature dial is being turned just a little more this week!

This week the voters will be making a path toward the finale, and we are losing the 3 contestants with the fewest votes this week.

I'm sad about the four we just lost! A couple of my favorites are in that list. And combined with the Sudden Death losses is making for a really sad day of goodbyes.

Ugh sorry all. My wife needs emergency gallbladder surgery and suddenly had to go away this weekend before her surgery so that she could see a dying relative, so I ended up missing because I was juggling dog and cat care, school, still handling parts of our move ... worst. I'll try to read and vote!

Is this really how you planned the season to go, Gary? I mean, losing three authors in the polls is staggering, and we just lost 4 this week already!

If you go back through Idol archives it's usually one way or the other. We either larger numbers going at the start (Bottom 5) every week and keeps going like that until you get to the Top 30 or so and then it slows down. OR you leave people in for a little longer with only 1 or 2 eliminations in all the early weeks until you get several weeks in and start with larger eliminations once people have had the chance to get their feet under them. Otherwise you end up with the mini seasons lasting as long as seasons (with fewer contestants) and the regular seasons lasting forever.

Did I plan for 4 people to bye-out this week? No. I thought it more likely that we would see those numbers earlier. Did I plan for 3 people to be eliminated this week? Yes.

It looks that way. And it looks like someone rescinded at least one vote in the last half hour or so of voting? I haven’t been tracking too carefully but I think my total number of votes went down right there at the end. I’m too exhausted to fully embrace the drama if that is the case. Sometimes LJ idol seasons are just less meant to be.

It is a thing that has happened in the past and a thing that the polls allow for which can keep things spicy. I think especially in the beginning of a season many people read and vote early and then the temptation could be there to adjust votes toward the end to engineer results when it is close like this.

I'm a poll addict. And I've been checking the polls uber frequently this round because I was at the bottom for a long time and was trying to prepare myself mentally for either a write-off or an elimination. And let me tell you, my position aside, this has been one crazy poll.

If there are that many to write for the write-off, maybe Gary will reconsider. Crossing fingers and toes.

I know there are those who vote as close to the end as possible. I don't have the patience for that and I'm not that strategic. Not my nature.

I think a lot of people forget until close to the end, and then realize that they need to get a vote in right at the end. That’s definitely been the case for me on multiple occasions. What looks like strategy can sometimes just be disorganization. Or vice versa.

Thank you for pointing that out. There have been times when I haven't left myself enough time to read and comment. And I always feel SO guilty when that happens I vote for everyone. It seems the only fair thing to do.

I did "hear"/read that some Idolers do vote with that strategy in mind.
