Green Room - Week 3/4 -Weekend Edition

The poll closes tonight, so make sure you get your votes in!  I checked last night and again right now and the race has tightened up even further than it was. Now I have no idea which way it was going to go. www.dreamwidth.org/poll/ What happens over the rest of today is going to have a major impact on who goes home this week.

***

Did you watch the Olympic opening ceremonies? Paris certain;y knows how to throw a party.  ;)   Although I'm sure it's super annoying for anyone actually living there.

I remember when the Olympics were in Atlanta, and they had some events in Orlando. The Olympic torch came down a nearby street so I went out to see it. It was when I was about to get married to my first wife. The day of the Olympic Park explosion was my wedding day! I woke up to that news!
We wanted to go to Disney World, but were in our early 20s with no money to do anything, so the closest hotel room anyone could book for us was quite some distance away. (for those who know the area, Haines City) in a car that actually broke down making that trip.  :D

Ah, memories... anyway - are you watching the Olympics?

What are you favorite sports to watch? I find that I watch whatever it is on the first few days and then tune out until it's a "big event" and then say I'm going to watch more until it starts getting to the end and realize that I haven't been, watch the last few and say "Next time I'm going to watch more events!"  :)

I love pole vault, I'm always very edge of my seat over will they make it or will they knock off the crossbar

I watched the ceremony. I didn’t go in person because I’m not rich and I hate crowds, and honestly I feel like it would be hard to see anything in person. I thought it was cute and fun. Living here, it was fun to see so many cultural references. Gojira was awesome. Also a lot of people think the French are so serous so they were surprised at how cheesy some of it was, but they’re often really silly and like cutesy stuff.

I’m not seeing any events live but if I could watch some live, it would be gymnastics. I wanted to be a gymnast or figure skater as a child and watched both events at the summer and winter games with my grandpa. But everyone loves gymnastics so tickets were super expensive.

I generally don't watch the Opening Ceremony, but I love the competition. I'm really looking forward to Simone Biles, basketball, track and field, cycling and so many others. I once had a cousin (now deceased) who briefly held the world record in discus. I stood next to him once after a competition and he was immense. I'd never seen so much muscle. Steroids, unfortunately. Very sad. He also liked to enter tree-throwing contests. Great guy, but wrong choice.

Sorry to hear about your cousin. ❤️

Thank you. He was really nice and as big as the trees he threw. He could have won without the steroids, but it was the age of steroids and he got caught.

I mostly watch gymnastics and sometimes diving. I don’t really care for track and field as much, but I agree with [personal profile] aggienaut that pole vault can be exciting.

I don't watch the Olympics. Never really have cept this; i did have an ex once who i swear broke up with me because the one time I watched on purpose was through her I would cheer for countries who weren't America. (That isn't why the broke up happened, but i know it contributed).

I'd probably watch karate if i can do it on-demand.

I always cheer for countries that aren't the USA. I mean, I cheer for the USA too, but I've traveled to other countries and have friends living in a lot of other countries, and I cheer for those countries that only have a few athletes.

The long and short of it is that I should've never dated this person to begin with but had I not dated them I wouldn't of learned from dating them, so... yeah.

Yes, and Celine Dion's comeback brought me to tears. She's a Canadian icon and man, it's nice to see her performing again after all her health issues.

I love swimming, diving, equestrian stuff ... I'll be watching and cheering for both Team Canada and Team USA!

I didn't watch the opening ceremony, but I did watch the US women's soccer game against Zambia. I'm absolutely only interested in the Olympics for women's soccer. We don't have cable and can't afford another streaming service, so I found a way to fenagle a free two weeks of Peacock so I can watch the games. If the US team doesn't make it all the way, I'll start watching the other teams. I usually end up rooting for whoever knocked the US out.

I watched about half the opening ceremony. We recorded it, so I'll probably see the other half tonight. I like watching gymnastics, diving, swimming, track and field and equestrian.

I adore the Olympics and have been watching them since the old days of Jean Claude Killy. (That's Gronoble in 1968 if you were wondering.) I can't imagine not watching the Olympics if they're on TV. Fortunately, DH is just the same when it comes to sports. In fact, we have it on the TV behind me as I type this.

I love them all - old and new and trial. I'm a swimmer, so I enjoy the water sports, but I love the skateboarding, the gymnastics, more so the individual events instead of the team events. But it's all good.

When the Olympics are on, DH and I are both watching on our phones, tablets, shop backroom TV and my laptop in the main salesroom area. I can't be without the Olympics - I've been a faithful watcher since I was ten years old or so.

Now that Climbing is an Olympic sport, both my daughters participate in sports that have Team USA representation at the Olympics. I used to fence and ride hunter jumper, so I have soft spots for those sports. Nevertheless, it is likely that this hectic summer the only coverage I will see will be clips on the internet. Although our rock gym is doing a climbing watch party, so maybe I’ll make it to that. I’m very excited for both Team USA Artistic Swimming (synchronized) and Climbing, though. I think they are both sports where we’ve been growing the USA programs in very positive role-model-y ways.

Although I admit that whenever I think of Olympic coverage I think of the old ABC Wide World of Sports intro with “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.” Both my kiddos are way more serious about sports than I ever was in high school and they’ve both experienced both sides of that equation which just feels like a lot sometimes. And wasn’t there once an LJ Idol topic along those lines. . . ? I feel like there was.
