Work Room - Week 6

At the end of each Topic post I end it the same way: "Have fun". (I said it in the most recent Topic post: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/884842.html)

I've been saying that for years.

Because writing should be something you enjoy. Granted, it usually involves a lot of struggle and hitting your head against the wall as you wrestle with torment, but at the end of the day, there's also a lot of fun involved as well.

What part of the process of writing do you find is the most "fun" for you and where do you struggle the most?

Btw - in case you have forgotten, the deadline for any changes to the Teams: people forming new teams, leaving teams, new people joining them, etc... is 24 hours before the Topic deadline! I know some of the established teams are in the need of some new blood! (And new teams would definitely help shake things up over there, with an increase of Rivals eliminations)

One of the prompts jumped out and screamed "the family" at me, but I just wrote about them and I didn't want to visit them again so soon. But the prompt is perfect!

The best part of writing for me is when I get in the zone, even if I am just on the edge of the zone, where there is a connection between my brain and what I see on the computer screen and the words just flow from my fingertips. It's so exciting. I also enjoy the editing.

And my least favorite part is starting.

I agree with all that you said about the writing process. The connection and the editing, but not looking desperately for the subject to write about. I free write anything that comes to mind in longhand to do it, but that's where having to choose from several topics is a handicap: it takes time to write enough, well, "garbage" to come up with an idea that feels right even with the singe topic, let alone 5 or 6! (I prefer even the topics I can barely stomach at first to having to choose.)

I often make an outline, or a partial outline. If I am have a really hard time getting started I'll do a rough draft longhand to get the juices flowing. I edit best by printing what I'm working on. I'm utterly useless trying to edit on the computer. 😊
