It's really too classic for the regular reader in me, but:

"Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice."

This is what I want to do with my narratives, jumping forwards and backwards through time. So elegant.
