Green Room - Week 8 - Weekend Edition

I haven't opened it yet, but I did see the "preview" of it and know that I currently have an email in my inbox telling me that I have a check for $800,000 waiting in my name! I don't know the guy, and I imagine that I will have to send some sort of verification, but whoo hoo! It's only a matter of time before I can say "So long, suckers!" to you lot and go live out the life of a Hundred-Thousander!

I won't forget you little people. Well, OK, I probably will.

In the meantime though, I'll pretend like I care and ask "What are you doing this weekend?"

and by that I mean "Other than writing and reading entries": http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/671853.html because really, that should be your Top Life Priority!

Hey workroom, I've got a question: does the prompt have to be central to the piece? Or only inspire it? I've got a series of (very) short anecdotes, but only the first one is directly inspired by the prompt and the others build off of that one. Is that cool?

If one of them is obvious and the others are related to it, then that's probably more of a connection that several posts I've seen (notsomuch lately, but definitely in seasons past).

Whether it's "enough" will probably be a matter of varied opinions and there's probably no way for anyone to say for sure until they read it.

The first story is obviously related to the prompt, and then the others are related to the first story, but not the prompt. As long as there's no rule about how "on topic" they have to be, like [livejournal.com profile] porn_this_way said, then I think I'm still within the boundaries.

Personally, I think it's totally kosher, but like [livejournal.com profile] kathrynrose said, opinions tend to vary. There's no hard and fast rule on the subject, if that's what you mean.

Okay, as long as there's not like an actual rule I missed somehow, then I think I'm still "safe" with it.

Nope, no hard-and-fast rules about that. There really aren't many at all around here, which is what makes it so much fun...but that's probably just my inner petulant chaos spirit talking. :P The general idea is, interpret the prompt however you want. There aren't any technical penalties or official arbiters for that sort of thing, but if people feel like you're ignoring the prompt or the entry isn't really related, they may be less inclined to vote for you.

Hey, speaking of completely off topic,

How about that Sarah Slamen?

I've been trying to put together thoughts for one of my posts and got side tracked while doing research.

I'm surprised I haven't seen her before now. Maybe because I was offline.

SHE IS A FUCKING BADASS. The video got posted almost instantly on a lot of the pro-choice Texas groups I hang out on, and we were all reposting and being like "PLEASE LET THIS GO VIRAL." There is no excuse under the sun for her dragged out of there (oh wait, I forgot, this is Texas - the only constitutional amendment we acknowledge is the second one), but I am SO GLAD that shit got caught on video.

Did you see her on The Last Word with Lawrence Odonell?

YUP. That chic is fierce as hell. I'm sorry we'll be losing her to New York, but I don't blame her at all for going.
