Green Room - Week 8 - Weekend Edition
I haven't opened it yet, but I did see the "preview" of it and know that I currently have an email in my inbox telling me that I have a check for $800,000 waiting in my name! I don't know the guy, and I imagine that I will have to send some sort of verification, but whoo hoo! It's only a matter of time before I can say "So long, suckers!" to you lot and go live out the life of a Hundred-Thousander!
I won't forget you little people. Well, OK, I probably will.
In the meantime though, I'll pretend like I care and ask "What are you doing this weekend?"
and by that I mean "Other than writing and reading entries": http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/671853.html because really, that should be your Top Life Priority!

Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
trickentry.I don't want to do another nonfiction piece. Dear god, I think I've run that well dry and don't have it in me, right now.
The topics I have left to choose from are:
- When I Was Young (which I want to veto on principle because of the nonfiction ideas that are springing forth from it, but I think I could do a good fiction piece with it, too?)
- the email that made you feel like a BAMF (which I also want to veto on principle because I know who submitted this topic)
- The Heart of Time
- Smells like rubbing alcohol
Thoughts? I'm willing to play in my regular 'verses and completely off-the-wall ideas. I need halp.
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
BUT
These topics suck. Seriously.
The BAMF topic is so specific that I'm just - What?!? = So as far as I'm concerned, it's not even on the list.
The alcohol topic only brings up memories of injuries and hospitals. I'm not loving the thought of writing (or reading) sick-bed stories this week.
I have written a nonfic entry for When I was Young, but I'm afraid it's going to be one in a series of similar entries and lose points for originality. I may not use it at all.
The Heart of Time topic - I want to think of something that doesn't sound like syrupy romantic crap or five gallons of cliche'. Actually, I've had a very hard time getting the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz out of my head over that one, though I haven't thought of anything clever to do with it.Also, I've unfortunately had the Tin Man song by America stuck in my head because of it, and the lyrics of that song make no sense.
I'm sure that there are a zillion things I could write about for design flaw, but I'm having a hard time thinking of them, except for the dangly bits of men being on the outside, and I'm not sure everyone would appreciate my opinions on that subject. But I haven't completely ruled it out. :P
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
Hm, sick-bed stuff. I hadn't quite thought of that. Of course, I have several characters who get injured in various universes, but I'm not sure I have the ability to write drama right now.
I can't do When I Was Young for the same reasons I can't really do BAMF -- it would revolve around that specific person and I can't. I just can't. "Design Flaw" was enough for me on the particular on-goings of my life right now.
Hm, I don't know if I can come up with something clever for that, either -- but I do really like the Tin Man connection, too. If anything, it'd be unique, and I love unique.
lol if they're humorous opinions on the subject then I miiight just go for that. Because that particular aspect of the male's design always did strike me as erm, odd. Though I understand why it needs to be that way. =p
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
The Heart of Time sounds like some challenge your characters would have to do in Stellar.
The rubbing alcohol one? Kind of makes me think of James ending up in the hospital after his thwarted suicide attempt, though I do remember people saying they didn't want to read lots of entries about gory things. The Heart of Time also kind of makes me think of James...maybe James in therapy? Hell, When I Was Young could be him recounting childhood stuff while in therapy.
If you want REALLY off the wall, I would say "write something in the humor genre," but that's hardly specific and I don't know if you're in the mood/headspace for that.
ETA: In terms of humor and super-randomness, now I'm imagining Levi and Tobias encountering door-to-door evangelist types for humor, because I recall how your humor entry in that verse was well-received.
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
But maybe about Jazz or Savin? I mean the world is different now than how I had it before, with NBs being legal juuuust after Savin would have been born. Maybe a speech thing? Hm. It's kinda sparking a thing and I could work with that thought. Maybe. I've been very bad at following through with things, the past few days. I'll let that stew some....
Oh, I didn't think of the Stellar 'verse. Next part up is writing Peter's failure to complete the Challenge on Venus, too. And since he represents Sloth... Hm. I'll think on that a bit, too. I had story-vommed that bit like weeks ago but haven't done anything with it yet.
Yeah, rubbing alcohol really only makes people think of injuries. Gaaah. I really don't think I'm gonna be able to do anything with that one.
Good god, no. I am borderline weepy all day e'ery day right now, managing humor would be like pulling teeth. I'd *like* to do that again, but right now it's just -- look, I can't even write smut, okay? lol And that's like my one thing that I do all the time.
Oh god those two would be so funny with a Jehova's Witness. Levi would mess with them and Tobias would take it all seriously and be like wtf this isn't how God's like etc etc. Could be amusing. Back burnering that, too, just in case my mood shifts (it does a lot).
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
The Heart of Time also made me think of Ryin's ship going mysteriously off the grid, if that's even still how it goes. I sort of imagined a "his last moments" thing as he's contemplating life while his ship dies and loses life support in the dark of space, but I don't know what actually happens to him.
Even if you can't do the Jehova's Witness story now for Idol, that is something I would like to see just because it would be so lulzy. (My method of brainstorming -- write what I wanna see! lol)
I hope I'm helping!
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
That'll still be how it goes. Most of the continuity post book 1 isn't changing -- Ryin still ends up Emperor, then J&S, etc. So that's certainly something to think about, too.
It could be pretty lulzy. We'll see what happens.
You're helping. :) Just don't know how much, lol.
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
RUBBING ALCOHOL:
- Any sort of medical doctor
- Someone who mistakes something for rubbing alcohol, or mistakes rubbing alcohol for something else, and figures out the error by the smell
- A cop who gets to a crime scene and smells rubbing alcohol that's been used as a forensic countermeasure (I've been watching too many cop shows)
- Booze-type alcohol that is being rubbed into something
- Someone getting rubbed down while drunk
HEART OF TIME:
- "Dark Heart of Time" is apparently a Tarzan novel (thank you, google!)
- Some sort of gadget that makes a time machine work (Flux Capacitor FTW!)
- Something at the heart of a temporal paradox (I've been watching too much Star Trek)
- A heart-shaped watch (o hay Tinman, whaddup)
- A heart as a ticking timebomb, literally or figuatively
I'm probably doing Design Flaw and BAMF Email, just because I had a couple of random-ass ideas pop into my head, but IDK how well that's gonna turn out. I really need to get them started tonight, so if one or both are gonna turn out to be non-workable, I've got time to come up with a Plan B.
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
And why in god's name do I do this THING where I procrastinate and procrastinate and then get started and get in my zone and then look up and it's 8 hours later?! DEAR SELF, you are an idiot, a masochist, or both. Close Photoshop, close Googledocs, go to bed, and quit being stupid.
PS - When the hell did the sun come up? Because last I checked, it was pitch black and barely even midnight, and now there's birds and shit and signs of life and it's daylight outside and IDEK about this "laws of physics" and "healthy sleep schedule" BS. Lies, I tell you. LIES!
Fuuuuu. Sleep. *crash*

I don't know how much a glowing brain will help, but I hope you get something done.
Good luck!

Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
… but I haven't actually started writing anything. Oops.
Re: Weekend Edition -- Work Room?
I really, really, really do not want to go that route right now. I already did that route for Design Flaw. I don't wanna be That Guy that writes the same things over and over.
GET TO WRITING! Last minute is no bueno, dude. lol.

Whether it's "enough" will probably be a matter of varied opinions and there's probably no way for anyone to say for sure until they read it.

How about that Sarah Slamen?
I've been trying to put together thoughts for one of my posts and got side tracked while doing research.
I'm surprised I haven't seen her before now. Maybe because I was offline.
