I remember taking the Whale in to the vet when he was about 10-11 months old, and he weighed in at 17 pounds. I was so surprised, and I said, "You whale!" That was before he became chubby and earned that name for good. But he was actually just big. All of our other cats were 6-11 lbs (and the previous male cat's chubby weight was 12 lbs). Good lord. OTOH, this cat's head fills your entire hand, and his paws are huge. So he IS legit big. And more svelte now, at about 18 lbs.
