Does "people" include more than just me? LOL. I think less than a third of the entries this week were nonfiction but I discussed this with someone else who suggested it was probably just the topic that pulled people in that direction.

I don't know. I think a lot of people are experimenting with both fiction and nonfiction but there does seem to be a trend toward more fiction these days. I'm not sure if it's because the writers feel like they have more freedom that way, or if the voters appear to be preferring to read it, or what. I did see someone in yesterday's GR say they preferred fiction. And a good chunk of the "favourites" yesterday were folks who focus a little more on fiction writing, too.

Is it because people admire the more creative fiction writers we have in the competition and they want to experiment and try that, too?

Personally I haven't really been able to accurately compare in the polls whether my fiction or nonfiction does better. I think it varies a lot. But I'm definitely planning to continue to write both.

I suppose it's worth admitting that as much as I love a lot of the fiction I read here, it would be nice to see more nonfic again. I'm not really sure why that is. I think it's more about balance than anything else. When I'm reading, I like to have a lot of variety.
