I think the difference is between asking for votes and begging for them. LOL.

One is fine; the other may be tacky. But at the end of the day, neither one really hurts anybody except the author.

I think Gary commented a while ago in a post about the controversy surrounding "self-pimping," but at the end of the day, anyone who ever sells any writing does that to an extent. "Look at my stuff, isn't it awesome, don't you want more?"
