That is not ill-mannered at all. :)

A lot of people have strong opinions on whether or not they want to promote *themselves* in Idol. I think the only time people who promote themselves really suffer from backlash is when then promotion nets them a significant margin of votes, particularly if they don't seem terribly popular as writers in the competition.

Does that make any sense?

ETA: Take a look at the closed polls for Tribe 1 and Tribe 7. You can see how many more voters came to Tribe 7, and if you were watching the polls progress over the past few days, you would have seen how it moved in cycles. People near the bottom would suddenly shoot ahead (probably in conjunction with promoting themselves or being promoted by others), and then the people newly left behind would do the same. So it became a bidding war in Tribe 7, and it's unlikely that our extra 140 voters or so read all the entries and voted for their favorites. And it's a bummer when people who *were* well ahead of the cutoff line initially fall behind because those people asked for help, and they didn't.

On the other hand, if it's that important to you, fight for it - and if it isn't, then hey, the person who fought to stay in needs/wants it more than you do, I guess.
