The last time I took a spontaneous road trip, I drove from Perth to Adelaide to Melbourne, flew to Tasmania, back to Melbourne to pick up the car (we parked it at the airport), to Canberra, to Sydney, and then I had to drive all the way back to Perth gain on my own because my husband flew to Malaysia from Sydney for the job interview for his current job. ;) Of course we needed a bit more than six days for that... I can't remember how long we were gone for, but Perth -> Melbourne took I think six days in itself since we stayed in Adelaide a couple nights. I sped home from Sydney in only four days, though!
