I knew what the word meant, although I was unaware of just how much of a religious connotation it had. Enough contestants stated they had an issue with the word that I assume ignorance/laziness on the part of my readers (which also ties into basic exam practice I've had drummed into me). So personally, I put the definition up there to save my friends the hassle of having to look it up, particularly because there wasn't anywhere in my entry that made sense to do a link, which would have been my usual practice, although I agree - had I known that everyone else would do it, I wouldn't have bothered. I don't usually do any kind of meta reference, which this falls under, precisely because it tends to alienate people and very few like to hear musings about the contest unless that's the focus of the entry and it's done well.
