Although the one idea I have does not involve Ghana at all, but I feel like I _ought_ to involve Ghana in my answer so I'm still thinking on it.
I feel like the original definition Gary posted might give the idea it's using some forbidden knowledge or taking up some property someone has left behind and claiming it as one's own. I think it really is mainly about looking back at your past and taking lessons from it ... though of course LJI is all about anyone's interpretation of a topic.
Also for what it's worth most of the Ghanaians I polled about the word yesterday did not actually recognize it. So I think maybe it was popularized by the movie of the same name and thus oddly got more recognition outside Ghana than within? Or my contacts are from the wrong region ::shrug::
