If you haven't figured out that polls in Season 10 are going to be decided by only a couple votes, you haven't been paying attention.

This week in Second Chance was no exception to that rule. 3 veterans and 1 newbie are leaving us this week.

Goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] i_love_freddie
[livejournal.com profile] magazhchi
[livejournal.com profile] waveform_delta

Thank you so much for coming out this season, and I hope that we will continue to see you around, rooting for your favorites, and participating in the Home Game!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

The road to get back into the competition is going to be full of surprises, and this week was no exception. Before we even get to the poll, we already are saying goodbye to some old friends and a promising newbie.

Goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] aniron_iorhael, [livejournal.com profile] danceypants04, [livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis43 and [livejournal.com profile] talon

Thank you for coming out for another shot, and I hope we will continue to see you around, and in the Home Game!

As for the rest of you - we will be losing 4 contestants this week, as things intensify!

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites, to continue on their quest! And, of course, tell your friends to do the same!

The poll closes Sunday, March 19th at 7pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

The race to enter the main competition will get tighter every week.

This week's topic is

Front Porch

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Tuesday, March 14th at 8pm EDT If you need a space to discuss ideas, feel free to use the current Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989672.html

Have fun!

If saying goodbye were easy, people would be better at it.

After 10 years of this, it still sucks. Especially when, as it is in this case, that we are saying goodbye to a couple people that I find myself smiling when I see them return.

Because these are two veterans. Both have only played one season before this (9 in the first case and 7 in the second - if my records are right). But they are familiar faces in the crowd, old friends returning to the fold.

Early on though, people can get lost in the shuffle - and with this season, while there isn't as much of a shuffle, there also isn't as much room for someone to fully get their legs under them for a longer run.

Which means that tonight we are saying goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] kotenok_angel and [livejournal.com profile] shadows_of_pyre

I hope we will continue to see you around, in the Home Game though, and that you will jump back into the fray once Second Chance kicks into gear a little later in the season!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
If the internet is any indication, one of the best ways to create conversation is saying the words "Jennifer Lawrence".

So - how about that Jennifer Lawrence?

***

Today is the last day of Week 2, and the poll will be closing tonight, sending two more into the Home Game! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/956559.html

So if you are going to #MaketheCase for anyone to stick around another week - this is your last shot to do so!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The poll is still up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/956559.html So make sure to get over there and give some love.

Who needs more of it? I'm sure there are entries where you are looking at the current results and saying "Wow - they deserve more attention!" Well, now is a good time to point people to them! Far better than waiting until they are eliminated!

***

We started cleaning out the attic last night. Which is funny, because all of it is from back when Cynthia was married to her ex, so there are a lot of their memories - and by "memories" I mean lots of random papers thrown into a box accompanied by boxes of computer disks which I'm sure contain *lots of really, really important data* that were thrown into a box and put into the attic back in the '90s! :)

There's a lot more to dig through though, so who knows what other important things are going to appear.

What's in *your* attic right now?

Heck, we can even get a bit meta with this, and what is in your creative/emotional attic, and do you really still need it?

Because a little Rev Peyton in the morning is always a good thing - here's a video of Rev himself playing (and firing) a Shotgun guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QHxWNl3TDI

Apparently, the video ended up on the front page of Reddit and was shown on @Midnight with Chris Hardwick. Which is awesome - this is the band that I've been following since a little after their first album came out. (around 2007/2008). I love these guys and am glad that more people have been paying attention to them.

Although I'm torn, because their shows *here* have never been well attended - and I have that "I want everyone to go see them!" combined with "I like being right up front and having room!" feelings going to war inside of me. :)

The Week 2 poll is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/956559.html Which isn't inside of anyone (unless you had it implanted there) but is certainly going to war...

What is going to war inside YOU today?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The poll is now up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/956559.html

Yes, there are a lot of byes. But there are also a lot of entries, and I prefer to concentrate on the positive!

Which means that there are a lot of really good entries out there that need your support. I hope you take the time to give it!

Work has been "interesting".

It seems to be a weird phase, because this crops back up every few months in ways that I've *never* seen it before. Maybe I'm just paying more attention now than I have before and this is *every* office. But there definitely seems a confusion/almost irritation at times that I won't take sides and join in. I just want to ignore everyone and run Idol... oh, I mean, *do my work*, and be left alone. But everyone else seems to want to be in everyone else's business.

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

We all have “that one friend”, which is why that was the launching point for inspiration this week. It’s something that everyone can relate to, well, those with friends at least. ;)

There are quite a few byes, which is going to make things interesting over the next couple of weeks but the advantage of it, is that it gives everyone a little more time to read!

I’m giving you a little more time anyway.

We will be losing 1 contestant from each tribe. (the ones with the fewest votes - so make sure to read, comment and vote to keep your favorites in this thing!)

The polls close on Thursday, Dec 8th at 9pm EST.

Good luck to everyone!

It's Saturday when this is going up - which means tomorrow (Sunday) at 3 pm EST is the deadline for your Week 2 Idol entries. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954961.html

Well, regardless of when this was going up, that would still be the deadline. But I wanted to give some context!

***

What's going on with your weekend?

So far mine has been running errands. I'm sure the rest will be "Idol related"/running more errands. If I sit for too long, I'm sure my weekend will be decided for me. ;)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I missed out on yesterday's "late Green Room discussion" of listing your favorite holiday movies. Of course, I liked the ones already mentioned. But the one I try to watch every year is "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas".

Cynthia's is "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Although we were just talking a couple days ago about how we needed to watch Gremlins!

What about YOU? What do you "need to watch" every year? Maybe it's not a "Holiday movie", but rather something else?

Back when I was single, I would rewatch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, extended editions around Christmas.

Just for the record, LJ Idol is standing with Kellogg's and will also no longer be advertising on Breitbart.

Granted, we were never advertising there in the first place, and the principled stance has a lot more to hoping that they will learn of our allegiance and send free cereal... but that doesn't make it any less real or principled!!!

Speaking of real, it's just another example of the continued War on Santa: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/12/01/oregon-schools-santa-stance-causes-controversy/94721496/

(Note: the Winter Holiday celebrated in 'Merica is the Birth of the greatest person ever born, the one who brings light and happiness into the world, and endorses Coke products - Santa! This particular endorsement may actually have to do with wanting to receive more presents.)

There's no ulterior motive though for telling you that this is the link to your topic thread: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954961.html nor that this is your Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/955188.html

What are YOUR ulterior motives now that we've officially crossed over into December?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
If you went to bed early last night, you may have missed what happened, so here's your link recap:

We lost our first contestants last night as the Results came in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954709.html

The new Topic went up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954961.html

Which means there is also a new Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/955188.html

Going over to say goodbye in the Results thread is something that I would highly encourage people to do. I know it's not always the most comfortable thing, and people are, by nature, awkward. I also know that it's early and maybe you don't really know anyone yet. But, here's the thing - only one person is going to make it out of this without a "goodbye". Maybe that will be you. But the odds are against it. For me, it's kind of like encouraging folks to comment to each other's entries - because if you want people to comment on yours, you have to show the willingness to do the same.

I promised to post a reminder to the people who used a bye last week, so here it is: Hey guys. It's Gary. You know, THAT GUY.

I just wanted to remind you that the Week 2 topic is up now, and there is a deadline. You should really check that out. Because you've already used 1 bye. You only get 2. Once you use that up, you're out. I don't want to see you go out like that.

So I'm tagging you here, in hopes that either you will see it and go "OH yeah!" or someone likes you enough to reach out and remind you themselves: [livejournal.com profile] calliemajor, [livejournal.com profile] cheapxdate, [livejournal.com profile] dee_aar2, [livejournal.com profile] diaryofa_mom, [livejournal.com profile] dubheach, [livejournal.com profile] elbielievable, [livejournal.com profile] ellakite, [livejournal.com profile] emperor_smooth, [livejournal.com profile] ewok_626, [livejournal.com profile] feritatum. We all have that person in our lives.

Maybe more than one of them in some cases.

You know who they are. You know what sorts of things that they do.

They are

That One Friend

and they are the topic this week!

When I first heard that I would be writing a Work Room this week, I wasn't sure about what I was going to say. I sat down and I pondered the idea. What is a Work Room? Why did I need to write one? Work. In a room. A Room of Work.

I pondered until I couldn't ponder any more...

and then I deleted the first couple of paragraphs you just read and got right to the point with a stronger beginning.

There's a lesson in there. You only have a few moments to grab someone's attention. There is a lot to read, just in Idol - and a world of distractions. If you don't have a way to hook someone into wanting to read more, it doesn't matter how you close, because most people won't get there.

That's MY number 1 piece of advice going into Week 2.

What's yours?

The new topic is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954961.html

and please make sure that you stop by the Results thread to say goodbye to those leaving us this week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954709.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The results are in, and while there were three amazing entries, only two of them can move forward this week.

This time around, those two are:

[livejournal.com profile] ellison and [livejournal.com profile] uselesstinrelic!

Congratulations.

Your entries for the main competition are due tomorrow, so I hope you are ready! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/898794.html

As for anyone else still wanting to get into the fray - there are two more chances, coming soon!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

In Week 1 of the 4-part Second Chance enterprise - 1 person won through to the main competition.

This is Week 2.

Guess how many people are going to go through this time?

Note, there are 3 contestants who signed up.

Which means 1 of them will be left behind to fight another day, and 2 will move forward where they will be submitting something for this week’s main competition.

There are 2 veterans and 1 newbie, which should make things interesting - and there being only 3 entries this week, it should be easy for everyone to get through and make their decision(s).

The poll closes Thursday, Feb 25th at 9pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

The second of four chances to get back into the competition starts now!

Once again, it's a Open Topic, which means you can write anything you want to write and once again, it's a short time period in which to do it!

So if you have been previously eliminated, or never got into Idol in the first place - now is a great time to jump into the shark infested pool!

(and if you are staring down the barrel of elimination tonight, you may want to start preparing a "just in case")

The deadline to link your entry back to this thread is Tuesday, Feb 23rd at 8pm EST

It's week 2 and we already have our first scheduled Death Match!

The Rivals ended in a tie, which means that[livejournal.com profile] spydielives and [livejournal.com profile] vik_thor will be going head to head next week!

With the Friends, it came down to the average of 1 vote.  Which I know doesnt make anyone feel any better - but it does show just how much that a single vote can impact how things are going to go.

The losing team was Team Raspberry Pi

Which means that this week we are saying goodbye to the one and only [livejournal.com profile] grail76!

I really hope that we will see you in the Home Game, and ultizing any chance to come back that will be coming your way!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com

I hope that something has awaken inside of you - because today is the last day of the polls!!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/872418.html  and http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/872664.html is where our own space opera is going down!

The forces of good and evil are battling it out!  (Of course everyone thinks they are the good side...)

Can you believe it's only one week until we celebrate the birth of Santa*????
