I was really busy lately, so I brought in some hired help. My friends from United Airlines will now be handle any and all complaints. Just raise your hand if you need help with something, and they will show up and escort you to a special debriefing area we have set up. If you're feet are hurting, don't worry - they will just carry you there.

I've also brought in some old friends from Pepsi to help with our new ad campaign - where voting in LJ Idol polls destroys all racism and everyone is happy. Don't believe me that is what occurs? Go check out the new one and see for yourself! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1003004.html

I've also brought some folks from Livejournal itself in to consult on some long term planning ideas and to help with general communication. Those are areas they have always been outstanding in, so I'm sure this is going to be *great*!

Please help welcome our new additions to the staff!

For those of you on Facebook - I'd highly recommend checking out my FB friend (and all around good guy) Steve Helling's pictures and stories from his trip to visit Syrian refugees in Iraq. They are all public, so just click here https://www.facebook.com/steve.helling and go see them!

He had the opportunity to see first hand what a lot of people talk about, but not many fully understand.

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

People share their stories. It’s what we do.

These days a lot of them are told, and shared, on the internet. But at the heart of it, they are still our Campfire Stories.

Which is fortunate, because that was the topic this week!

When they write the tale of this week in the history of LJ Idol, those brave souls who delve into our history remark on what an “interesting” time it was in the blogging world, and how many external factors came into play. More likely than not, they will note that this was one of the turning points on the road toward Gary gaining full control of the world and amassing his armies to sweep across all of space and time.

It all started here, with this week’s entries. So thank you for being a part of that!

Unfortunately, we had two drops, someone saved by a “gift bye” and a sacrifice.

The last two I will let you find on your own. But as for the first bit - we are saying goodbye to two dear friends of Idol. One of them because of running out of byes and the other is vanishing from these parts entirely.

Goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] eeyore_grrl and [livejournal.com profile] sinnamongirl.
And no, I didn’t realize until I just cut and pasted their names into that spot that there was a “theme”. ;)

Thank you so much for coming out for this season and helping to make it special. I hope we will continue to see you around to root for your favorites and to Home Game. (Well, one of you probably will, and I hope that the other finds a way to be comfortable doing that, because you will definitely be missed)

As for the rest of you, we have our usual business, with a not-so-usual twist. This Week is the first week of the Second Chancers joining the main competition, and all *10* of them have a special, one week, immunity. Which should make life a little more interesting…

We will be losing 3 contestants this time around!

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites to stick around!

The poll closes Friday April, 14th at 9pm EDT!

Good luck to everyone!

It's deadline day!

So make sure you are getting your entries in http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1001426.html

Still quite a few people who haven't posted yet. So go kick them until they do!!!

What did YOU do this weekend?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I have a spoiler for this week's Survivor episode.

Not who goes home (no idea about that, and I don't want to know) , but something that has the potential to explode all over the internet (depending on how CBS decides to show it). I'm kind of surprised that it took this long to get to me, considering that this season was filmed over a year ago. But apparently this has been "known to the Survivor community" for quite some time, and just now coming out as a "heads up".

Obviously, I'm not going to reveal it here. BUt I'll respond to emails of anyone interested.

I think it's interesting though that we are completely at the mercy of what CBS decides to show, and how they edit the event. Because that is going to be informing how people see what happens. It's how they are going to digest it, and how they will be reacting to it on the internet.

What is in CBS's "best interests"? Not showing it at all? Showing as much as possible and hoping for a huge social media reaction, even if it's a negative one.

They used to say there is no such thing as bad press. But with social media, I'm not sure that's true anymore.

I guess we will see how it plays out - but again, it's a good reminder that with an edited program - sure, they can only show what you give them (with reality shows) but at the end of the day, someone has to make that call on who to make the good guy and who to make the bad guy... and nuance has a habit of flying out the window.

I've seen that in Idol itself in the past, where people get ideas about other people and just keep building up their personal narratives.

I see it in "Real Life" where the same thing happens.

We are all our personal editors, telling our own stories about what is happening in the world around us.

Speaking of telling our own stories - the Topic thread is right over here, and closes on Monday: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1001426.html Make sure YOUR story gets told!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
That person posting about the evils of bombing Syria is the same person who once told me that the NFL is rigged and all games are predetermined.

That person who thinks Trump is doing a great job is the same person who once notably told me that she didn't think women should be allowed to vote.

The person on the front lines, making life or death decisions, can't figure out how to set up their background on their IPhone.

I had a bunch more personal examples, of people I know - but I thought that was enough to get to my point, which is "People are idiots".

It doesn't matter how many "You are so smart!!!" responses they can from people who agree with them.

That's something that I have to keep reminding myself about. There are people who *are* experts in their fields, and who also possess the ability to be able to explain those things to the rest of us. Those folks are golden. The rest of us? Talking out of our asses. Sometimes we can repeat the things we've heard, and those sources will be good. But it's still a lot of throwing thoughts out there on the wall and seeing what will stick.

I'm mostly posting this for myself, as a reminder. Because I keep reading posts/opinion articles/comments and I keep staring going "That's not true at ALL..." (based on the things I *do* know), but because it fits what other folks are already feeling, they swarm over with the "YES!!!!" I need to remind myself that other people have opinions about stuff, but at the end of the day, that's all they are - opinions. Some are going to be more right than others. And when someone *is* right about one thing doesn't mean that they are right about anything else.

The guy writing this once wore one dress shoe, and one tennis shoe, to work and didn't notice until about midday. He's probably the biggest idiot of them all. Which is something else that is worth remembering.

A fact that I can tell you is that the place to post this week's entries is http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1001426.html so hopefully current contestants are doing that.

Anyone wishing to Home Game can post it in the Green Room.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Because that Day 13 was really Day 1...

I'm proud to announce that Livejournal has listened to the People and has brought in a crisis specialist to move all the servers back to San Francisco and restore people's faith in the system again. Welcome Steve Bannon!!!

Note: That took you a second didn't it? Because that sounds like a move LJ would make. But you *had* to know it was a joke, Livejournal never gives you that much heads up on any move that is being made! :D

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1001426.html is the new topic and the Work Room can be found http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1001636.html

So far, I've heard largely positive reactions to the decision for Idol to stick around. But of course, those opposing it might not even be able to see this! :O

I do have a Dreamwidth account for Idol set up, just in case. I've had it over there for awhile now, just to keep my options open. Hopefully it will never come to that.

For those who *do* go over to DW and spend time there? What's it like, because I've heard two entirely different criticisms - (1) that no one is there and it's a ghost town and (2) that compared to LJ the folks who go over tend to be the "holier than thou" annoying types. (I can see the latter from some of the Facebook responses I've seen (on the Livejournal Lives group, NOT my own friends list).
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
We are moving forward again!

Which means there is a new topic.

What is it?

Well, gather around and I'll tell you!

Campfire stories

I'm sure you have some good ones!

The deadline to link them back here is Monday, April 10th at 8pm EST

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The new topic is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1001426.html

Cynthia and I were having a conversation the other day about how little things have changed - as much as we would like to think otherwise. People still gather around their campfires listening to stories. It's just some of those campfires are electronic. There are internet campfires and television/movies campfires... flickering lights and a release of energy serving as a focus to bring people together. (OK, most of our conversation wasn't about *that*, but I'm trying to tie it together... :D)

Where is your mind racing to with this topic?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Less than an average of 4 votes: That's the difference in the Teams between the "top" and the "bottom". That's not much of a margin.

There's not a huge difference when you get right down to the "barely survived" and "received the most votes" either. This mini-season has been a bit of a horse race the entire way, and has the marks of potentially being that going down the stretch!

That's the good news, or maybe the bad news for your nerves!

Now it's time to announce the bad news. Two contestants will be leaving us from the Teams and two from the Rivals.

There are:
From Team Strawberry Snuggle [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen
and from The Geek Squad [livejournal.com profile] tonithegreat

The Rivals are losing [livejournal.com profile] ellison and [livejournal.com profile] sinnamongirl

Thank you so much for coming out this mini-season, and I hope we will continue to get the chance the read your stuff in the Home Game!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The poll closes tonight! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/909410.html
so get up off that thing, and vote for your favorites until you feel better!

(I'm pretty sure that's what James Brown *meant* to say!)

A "Friend of Idol" (well, a friend of a friend of Idol) has a Kickstarter for an new game: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dirtycops/dirty-cops-a-game-for-scoundrels

It was suggested that I wait until a weekday post to advertise this and that I "say something controversial".

So: #1: "Dirty Cops? Couldn't they have just called this Cops?"

(OK, I've known a lot of really good people who have been police officers. Of course, I've known such absolute scumbags who have also been police officers. But nuanced commentary isn't "controversial". So - ALL COPS ARE DIRTY!!)

#2: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/03/20/university-kansas-professor-keeps-job-after-using-racial-slur-in-class.html

I also found this, from the "other side": https://medium.com/@schumaal/what-follows-is-a-letter-collectively-written-by-the-students-currently-enrolled-in-coms-930-at-the-8f4914d4bbd5#.8ta9e64td

and this one, that seems to be somewhere between the two: http://www.inquisitr.com/2909531/andrea-quenette-found-not-guilty-racism/

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kithan for filling in for a couple days!

For those who were "Who the (bleep) was that?" It's my assistant. You don't see her very often these days, because I'm pretty much doing everything on my own. But I know when I need her, and she's available, that she will step in and help out!

Her showing up not only gave me a little "time off", but also an idea for something that I want to do post Friends and Rivals. Not entirely sure how I'm going to do it yet, but I think it's a fun idea, or at very least a way to kill a couple weeks for those interested. :)

Originally, I was think "ultra-exclusive" (like maybe a Patreon level) but now I'm thinking that I might just open it up to everyone. I'll have to figure that out. Pretty sure it's going to be the latter, because I like the idea of more people enjoying it. (There is a root canal/crown and another bridge in the next year - once my benefits kick back in, I've already exhausted them for the year!! so I can say there's probably going to be another mini-season somewhere along the way! :D)

You've had a longer than usual time to read entries, but I hope you aren't waiting until last minute to comment and vote: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/909410.html

There's a lot of great stuff in there.

How has your weekend been going?
[identity profile] kithan.livejournal.com
Good morning again! In a rare return engagement, I am once again in charge of the Green Room. I have Gary locked in a closet and i won't let him out.

Make sure you're reading the entries and voting in the poll this week!

I've been looking for new podcasts to listen to at work. My earbuds keep people from trying to talk to me. I've listened to all of Serial, Undisclosed and Truth & Justice with Bob Ruff. Now I'm marathoning Nerdist. What are your favorites?

TGIF! I brought more bacon. Dont forget to vote!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

It was a short time to write. So of course it’s going to be a longer time to read and make up your mind about what it is you want to support.

But before we get to that - we had two contestants who did not make it to the deadline, and who had come in from Second Chance, so they did not have any byes to spare.

Which means that we unfortunately have to say goodbye to

[livejournal.com profile] barrelofrain and [livejournal.com profile] uselesstinrelic

Thank you so much to both of you. I hope that we will see you in the Home Game (or if anyone decides to “tag out”!)

As for the rest of you -

And for the voters who are lucky enough to have the opportunity to read your work… the time frame to write may have been short, but there is a lot of great stuff out there!

Two contestants will be leaving us from the Friends teams and two of them will be leaving from the Rivals! Which should put us in some very interesting territory.

The poll closes Monday, March 21st at 9pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good morning Idol!

I'd like to thank the voter who came out to support me in my re-election as Emperor of 'Merica yesterday!

That voter was, of course, me. But I'd like to thank him anyway. Clearly he has the best interests of my great nation in mind!

I would also like to thank President Obama for inquiring about my name as Supreme Court nominee. I had to say "No", because Idol has been keeping me too busy. I'm looking forward to seeing who his second choice ended up being.

One of those things that has been keeping me busy, is keeping *you* busy with the new topic thread: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908290.html

It's due TONIGHT, so make sure to get it in!

Btw - I just checked my original FAQ and I've been misquoting myself! I've been saying that the teams lasted until "the Top 30". But nope. Per *me*, they last until the "Top 25 or until there is only 1 team left".

Byes I've been saying last until the Top 25... and nope, it's Top 20! :)

Then again, I also said this would last under 6 months, and it's looking like it will be a little longer. ;) So maybe "5 off" is a theme. ;)

Honestly, I think my revised statements make things more interesting. But that's what I said, so I'm honoring it.

(as often as people love to correct me, I'm surprised no one did!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I went out this morning to perform my civic duty and voted.

I cast my vote for the best candidate - the one we, as a nation, *need* to truly bring us all together again!

I voted for Zombie Abe Lincoln! He will unite a nation and eat the brains of our foes!

So make sure to get out there and vote for him - before he comes to you to find out why you didn't!!!*

(*Note: This only applies for US Presidential Elections in states with primaries today. For 'Merica elections - there is no such thing. I am Emperor for Life!)

Last night featured some sad results: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908198.html
New Topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908290.html (Note the short deadline for this week!!)
and a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908645.html

Those coming out of the Gauntlet know a thing or two about short deadlines, but everyone else haven't had to deal with it so far this mini-season. Given how close we are to the end of Teams, and the end of byes is right on the other side of that, this is the sort of week that is bound to cause some shakeups!

(But not as many as President Zombie Abe Lincoln is going to cause during his first 100 days in office!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Week 14.

I said the words.

Now I'll list the topics:

Dancing in the Streets
Here's mud in your eye

You pick one of them, write an entry and link it back to this thread by Wednesday, March 16th at 10pm EDT

That's how we play the game!

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The new topics are up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908290.html

as are the results from last week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908198.html

Taking a look at the numbers, the "Friends" portion of our show will be coming to an end soon! As always, any changes to existing Teams, or forming new ones, needs to be emailed to me 24 hours before the deadline!

It's a short week - so make sure to get off the ground running!

What topics are speaking to you? (and what are they saying?)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I start every year the same way, by posting this song:

Because the first year that I posted it was the same year I met Cynthia and changed my life for the better.

I hope that your 2015 is also a change for the better.

The Break is coming to an end... hope you are ready.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It came down to a couple of votes.

Really, not even that.

Because immunity came into play.

Was it the bouncing immunity that [livejournal.com profile] mstrobel passed to [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen?

It was the personal immunity possessed by [livejournal.com profile] diagenou. That was used, and as a result, two more people are going home.

Before we get to that though, two things - first, thank you to everyone who voted! You definitely made the difference. Had you *not* submitted those votes over the last couple of hours, it would have been an almost completely different group going this week. Heck, had people been able to vote for their Top 40, it may have been a different group, that's how it works sometime, and this is definitely proof of that.

Second, there were *5* sacrifices this week. They are: porn_this_way, raven-annabelle, rswndrlst, sestinaqueen and teenagewitch

Thanks to immunity coming into play, there are also 5 being eliminated, for the maximum of 10 that were eligible to leave the game this week.

I hope that all of these folks will play the Home Game, and keep an eye out for Second Chance. You never know when it might be coming!

But for now, we are losing some old friends, and a new one:

[livejournal.com profile] i_love_freddie
[livejournal.com profile] joyfulfeather
[livejournal.com profile] kagomeshuko
[livejournal.com profile] solstice_singer
[livejournal.com profile] the_dark_snack
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's the final day to get in your contestant only vote: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/756961.html

I already have a backlog stacking up, that I will be trying to work through... while, you know, "working". ;)

The deadline to get them to me is 8pm EDT. So make sure to get your votes in. There's still enough non-counted votes out there to make the people on the top become the people on the bottom! :) So who knows what is going to happen tonight!

As I was walking in to work this morning, there were three women talking. I only heard a bit of their conversation as I passed - but what I heard was that one of them was complaining because her Mother had asked for a piece of her young son's hair. She thought it was creepy. One of the friends was just started to disagree and say it wasn't by the time I was getting out of range.

I'm not sure if the Grandmother in question was a voodoo priestess or perhaps a mad scientist wanting to clone her grandson. (Personally, I keep hair samples of all Idol contestants, just in case)

I simply don't have those details.

I *do* know that this is the first child/grandchild/person of any kind (that the woman knew about at least) where the Grandmother had wanted a piece of hair.

So I'm throwing it out there - who collects hair? Is it completely normal or "creepy"?
