In true Idol tradition, it came down to 1 vote that separated who stays and who is leaving us. For awhile, I thought we were going to start Second Chances off with a tie! But in the last hour or so, that one vote ended up reshuffling the deck.

That's why it's important to make sure you are letting people know what's going on over here in this corner of the internet, because you can never be sure if that one vote is what could keep your dreams alive.

Unfortunately, we are saying goodbye to 3 SCI contestants today. All of them are veterans and I really hope we will continue to see them around, and be able to read their work every week as part of the Home Game.

Goodbye to

Thank you for all that you have done this season to help make it special.

As for the rest of you Second Chancers - Congratulations, the new topic will be up later tonight.

100 Weeks

This should have been done a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to post it then due to being extremely distracted. Or rather, I'm quite glad that I was distracted! :)

Getting to 100 Weeks is starting to get a little crowded, but it's still a remarkable accomplishment!

Congratulations to

Thank you for your dedication to Idol, and for all of your hard work and creativity to get to this point! Here's to continuing to add to that total!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Of all the eliminations I hate, the one that takes place just after Second Chance closes is one of the worst.

For awhile, I thought there was going to be massive tie, but with the sacrifice things ended up shaking out to it just being the 4 folks I had originally said would be going. That just goes to show though just how close voting is at this point in the season. Every single vote can make the difference.

I DO hope that we will end up seeing you guys in the Home Game though, and in the Green Rooms to continue to cheer on your personal favorites.

Until then though, we are saying goodbye to

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

When you get a second chance in life, that’s when you have to grab ahold and not let go of it.

This is your Second Chance at LJ Idol, so hold on tight over the next couple of weeks.

We’ve gathered folks who were interested in getting another shot at making a run at it. Unfortunately, there were some folks who didn’t get an entry in, even with the deadline being extended.

Which means, before we even post the poll, it’s time to say goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] cheapxdate, [livejournal.com profile] grail76, [livejournal.com profile] kindabrisk, and [livejournal.com profile] yuniebaby

I’m so glad that you came out this season! I hope we will see you in the Home Game!

As for the rest of the pack, we will be losing 3 contestants from their ranks. Each week will continue to shrink the ranks, until it is time for the survivors to re-enter the main competition!

At that point, joy will ring across the land - or terror. One of those things will ring across the land and all shall rejoice…. Some will rejoice… maybe someone could be vaguely pleased… ;)
The poll closes Friday, March 10th at 9pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

[Poll #2064261]
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Today - one poll closes: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/987604.html

and another poll opens: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/986817.html

That's the way of life though isn't it? Or something close to that. Seems really familiar. ;)

Who needs more love in the poll right now? What are you favorites who should be getting more attention?

How was your weekend?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Due to severe, and unexpected circumstances I need to push the deadline for Second Chance Idol's first topic back to Monday http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/986817.html So you have a little extra time to make sure you are going to get something in.

I'm OK. There are just some "adulting" things that I wish I didn't have to deal with, but I do.

Anyone want to trade? You can be the responsible one and I can go be fun and just have a good time?

One thing that isn't going to change, or pass though is that there is a poll currently going on: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/987604.html

So make sure to get out there and support your favorites!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The poll is up for the main competition: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/987604.html

And for those hoping for a Second Chance, there is the sign-up http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/981280.html and a topic http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/986817.html

Continuing the thoughts from yesterday - and stuff that I didn't get to answer because I ran out of time/got distracted looking at wedding photos. :)

- I'm very much interested in there being another season of Idol Minor. I loved doing it, but it wasn't until I met Olivia (and her Mom) that I'd really got any *real* feedback on it. That's why comments, emails and yes I'm going there, active Patrons, are so important. Because it let's me know what you are enjoying and want to see more of out of this decade-old experiment! If I don't get those things, then I don't know and, even worse, then I feel like I'm just wasting my time... Idol Minor isn't a huge draw after all. But it's an idea that's really special to me so if you want to see it post-Season 10 (even if you personally don't have/know kids that would want to participate - let me know!)

- In the spirit of "Let me know"... and the importance of comments... every season is a little different and I can only go on what I *see* and what I hear. Are Work Rooms still needed? Or would you rather go back to just doing that in Green Rooms? Green Rooms used to get too crowded, so I set up a dedicated space for it. I know that I've heard from Mentors that people really aren't contacting them for advise and to look things over this season they way they used to... and considering that I'm asking these folks for favors, I'm probably going to cut back on them *for now* and see how things go later in the season. But we'll see.

I like the idea that the "mood of this season" has been people sharing personal stories. That's how Idol started after all. It's nice to get back to the roots. :)

I do wish there were more people participating and *actually talking* in the Green Rooms and such. But that seems to be part of the current group dynamic and an issue of time with the folks who have shown up. (the numbers of people fighting to stay in week after week have been impressive enough that I can "forgive" them. Mostly. ;) )
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

We are losing some dear friends this week - old and new. Real life definitely is the enemy. I hope that those who continue to struggle against it week after week can keep up that fight! It’s worth it in the end, knowing that you go out swinging.

On the other hand, this might be a “good week” to go out because it’s the last chance to get into Second Chance Idol. Hopefully that is what these people are doing! If not, I really hope they are considering it… and even if they decide they can’t, that they continue to stick around to support their favorites, submit entries for the Home Game, and help shape the rest of this season!

So before we get to anything else, goodbye to our Drops:

[livejournal.com profile] goldmourn
[livejournal.com profile] sorchawench

And those who byed-out this week: [livejournal.com profile] copyright1983, [livejournal.com profile] dee_aar2, [livejournal.com profile] ellison (for real this time!), [livejournal.com profile] encrefloue and [livejournal.com profile] uselesstinrelic

You will be missed.

Those sticking with us - You will be hit.

Or some of you will at any rate. The voters will be taking deadly aim at your entries this week and will be taking four of you down!

(Well, one is a sacrifice. But you may already know that)
So make sure to support your favorites: Read, Comment, Vote - and tell your friends to come in and follow that same pattern! They’re bound to find something they love!

The poll closes Monday, March 6th at 9pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

LJ Idol is all about your personal growth as a writer.

Or it's all about the fun.

Or the strategy.

Or the torture.

Or the combination of all of these things!

Perhaps it's about the all-you-can-eat virtual buffet!

The bottom line is that it always ends up meaning something different to different groups of people, which means that the way folks approach it are going to be completely personalized.

Sooner or later, the idea of "who "deserves" to move forward over others always ends up coming up.

Different people are going to approach that differently.

I'll use an example that I *think* is safe because it can be a real life one, that hasn't really come up this season - and I'm pretty sure the people involved won't see this to take personally. (hopefully no one related to them does. Because it isn't.) The kids participating in Idol this season.

There is a huge difference between Season 9 and Season 10 in that regard. Week 1 of Season 9 the kids and the "troll accounts" (people who folks thought were just there to stir things up) were eliminated. In the coming weeks the remaining "troublemakers" were taken out. Pretty much every time you poked your head up, the voters were chopping it off.

For whatever reason, people in that season decided that it was going to be "really serious", and the overall tone reflected that. And you can't have kids outlasting adults in something that's "really serious".

I'm still trying to figure out what Season 10 is, and honestly, I don't think we will know it's full shape until we see the first couple of post-Second Chance weeks, if not even later than that. But, for whatever reason - maybe as a reaction to the seriousness of Season 9. Or maybe because of the influx of new blood who make their own rules - "the kids" have done better/gotten further than almost any Under-17 year old contestant. Which I think is remarkable. Does that mean they will be gone soon? Does that mean that people are grading them on a scale and they could end up outlasting *all* of the adults? I'll be honest - I literally have no idea right now. That is entirely up to the voters. It's up to YOU.

Not just with the kids, but with every other person - and every kind of writing that you see. You get to decide the "who 'deserves' to stay". That's all you.

The collective "you" has the power to shape the kind of place you want this to be this season, and the bigger story you want to tell. Let's make it a good one!

Sunday, March 5th: Deadline to sign up Second Chance and the first topic is due: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/986817.html

Note: I've extended the deadline for Second Chance sign-ups to match the first topic one.

Darkest Time Line: Look around you.

I answered a "How will Second Chance" work question in yesterday's Green Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/986296.html but feel free to ask me more here as well.

How has your week been going? Hopefully less insane than mine!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good evening!

The Second Chance Idol sign-up sheet is "officially closed", but I have decided to unofficially still accept people until the Week 1 deadline. Mostly because I forgot to give one piece of crucial information, something that no one actually asked me, which is why I forgot to say it.

Unlike previous years, this Second Chance is *just the people who sign up*. If you are eliminated from the main competition, you *are eliminated* and will (hopefully) join the ranks of the Home Game.

It's going to be a pre-determined amount of weeks, and whoever is left standing at the end of it will join the main competition. No revolving door. No strategic decisions on if to advance or not into the main competition during the course of it. No byes. Just a short fight, followed by joining the long struggle.

With that in mind, if people want to sign up http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/981280.html we will continue to accept them until the deadline for the Topic 1 entry, listed below.

As for the topic itself, there really could have been only one choice for this. To me at any rate.

This is your shot at a comeback. This is your shot at redemption.

Which is why your topic is

Not Throwing Away My Shot

Post the links to your entries (and only those, comments should go to the daily Green Room or the Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/985477.html) in this thread.

The deadline to link your entries here is Monday, March 6th at 7pm EST!

Have fun!

I haven't actually gone to sleep soon, and will be needing to wake up soon. But I just got off what was probably one of the most important phone calls of my life.

I just want to remind you - if you need to talk, please reach out to the people you love and talk to them.

If you even *think* that someone might need to talk to you and they aren't reaching out, please reach out to them.

Knowing where someone is, mentally and emotionally - and knowing you made a difference in changing that to a more positive place, even for just one night, is worth any amount of lost sleep.

Last night, we had results, in which we learned that La La Land was eliminated from the competi... oh wait, sorry. I read that wrong.

Moonlight was eliminated... oh wait, that wasn't it either.

My bad.

There were results however, and they involved sacrifices and a Write-off! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/984904.html So make sure you check that out!

The new topic is also up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/985303.html with it's Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/985477.html

We also have some questions about byes. Well, one specific one that I've decided to address in the Green Room.

The question was (essentially) "How can we get 'additional byes'"? Because real life interfered early on and now there's actually an *important* reason to miss the deadline (getting married)

There are people with extra byes. Some of them got them from being a Patron https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027 and others earned them for taking part in the challenge during Break Week.

Patron byes *have* to be used for someone else. The Break Week ones are personal use.

If you are someone with an extra bye (from either of those methods), or just haven't had to take any time off, and you *want* to give one to someone else, you can.

It's called a "Gift Bye". You are giving part of your Idol life to someone else to allow them to survive an extra week.

If you are someone in need - it doesn't hurt to put out a call for someone to help. I can't personally advocate either way on what anyone can do or "should" do, because it's your game and asking someone to put their own game at risk for someone else? That's not something I can do. BUT, when it happens, it's always a kind gesture to witness.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Again, the timing of this week's topic is pretty much perfect.

I selected it for Week 10 a few weeks ago, and then today, I'm out living it! Or, at least one of the meanings...

You want to know what it is? What is this week's topic?

Take a hike !

You have until Thursday, March 2nd at 8pm EST to link your entries back to this post.

Have fun!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's that time again.

The new topic is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/985303.html

(And there's a Write-Off happening: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/984904.html )

The Work Room is a place to work out those problems and ask questions of your fellow contestants and help each other over potential stumbling blocks.

So, where are you this week and what do you need help with? (or help you can offer!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Wow. This one is both surprising, and difficult. The only thing that I can say is that it was really close - and the fact that we have the Second Chance Gauntlet going on right now gives me hope that we haven't seen the last of them.

Team Late to the Party we are losing the always awesome [livejournal.com profile] noodledays
and from
Team Strawberry Snuggle we are losing the legendary Idol figure that is [livejournal.com profile] roina_arwen!

No one was scheduled to be eliminated from Weird Sisters, in fact they did quite well. However one of their members, for RL reasons, needed to throw herself on the live grenade, sacrificing so that someone else would survive another day. Which means it's goodbye as well to [livejournal.com profile] watching_ships

I hope to see at least two of the three of you back in the SCG mix. (Unless the third one ends up free in the next couple of weeks, and then I'd love to see all three of you!)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
When I see something I don't know much about, I ask questions. Sometimes they are dumb questions. Other times they are unintentionally dumb questions. ;)

Some of the time these are asked in order to get a general idea of where I should start looking for further information. Other times it's because I really am not interested enough to go digging, but I'm interested enough to hear from someone else who was, and who has already put in the work! :D

I find myself asking a lot of questions when it comes to "stories about celebrities" these days, because for the most part I have little to no knowledge of who these people are, what they have done with most of their life/career, and why people are talking about whatever it was that happened to them.

I have a similar blind-spot when it comes to "things that happen in Canada". Because you might as well say "Narnia". They are equally real. Canada is just Country Fanfic!

Don't even get me started on how much attention I pay to Canadian celebrities!

(In truth, if you "get me started" on it, that's a really short conversation)

It usually tends to be something "of note" that people are talking about, and it sometimes makes me curious on what, if anything, my stance would be on it - if only I knew a little more on the subject. But right now, I'm just feeling really outside that particular box. Most of the time I just assume that my friends lists know what they are talking about, so I go with their default "I'm pissed off about it!" :D

Being pissed off about something you hear about online seems the safest route!

The poll closes tonight, so make sure you support the writers you want to see go forward! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/897530.html

These are celebrities I can get behind following what is going on with their lives!

The new Second Chance opportunity is posted: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/897827.html for those willing to run the Gauntlet for another shot!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good afternoon Idolers!

The poll is up and going: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/897530.html so remember to get out there: Read, Comment, Vote - and Tell a Friend to Do the Same!

[livejournal.com profile] dmousey had a mishap with her entry and had to repost it. So the new link has been added to my post. (For those who don't know, you can't change a LJ poll in progress, you would have to delete the entire thing and start over, in this case that would mean all those votes received would be gone. I know that people are always asking me about that.)

I know that we've had someone delete their entry on purpose before, But to the best of my memory, this is an Idol first. So "congratulations". ;)

I hope you are having more fun this weekend than a hamster running around in a ball.

(I say this because I am currently watching a hamster running around in his ball. He seems to be having a really good time)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

10 weeks into Friends and Rivals, and our writers are on fire!

Not literally.

Well, maybe literally, I don’t know what they are doing right at this moment!

At any rate, there is some really good things to read this week.

Before we get to them though, we also have a couple bye-outs, people who ran out of byes and missed today’s deadline.

[livejournal.com profile] ellison and [livejournal.com profile] xo_kizzy_xo are leaving us.

I hope they take a shot at getting back into the fray during the Second Chance Gauntlet! There are still 3 more weeks to try!

As for the rest of the contestants, we will be losing 3 contestants from the Teams (or the makeshift oversized “teams”)

The poll closes Monday, Feb 22nd at 9pm EST

Good luck to everyone!

Note: [livejournal.com profile] dmousey's entry was accidentally deleted. Which means the link in the poll will not work, She reposted it at the following link: . http://dmousey.livejournal.com/31740.html

Tonight is the deadline to get your entries in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/894992.html

I'm going to try my best to be there on time, but I may be called away. TPTB have been calling me pretty much non-stop over the last couple of days to fill in for the Scalia vacancy on the Court. I finally agreed to hear a couple cases. Pretty sure I'm going to go with the death penalty on all of them. Regardless of what they are about.

Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association? Death.

Evenwel v. Abbott? Death

Zubik v. Burwell? Death

Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt? Double death

Fisher v. University of Texas and United States v. Texas? You guessed it - death!

I'm pretty sure I can convince the majority of my new colleagues to vote with me for most of these.
