A couple people asked "Hey, are we having the traditional Afterparty???" I figured most of you were asleep by this point! ;)

But for the people still willing to stagger in for one last gasp - here's a little something.

Before we get to that though, a little housekeeping business.

Is there going to be a Season 7? - The BIG question that everyone asks.

Barring anything unforeseen - YES, there will be a Season 7.

When? It won't be for a few months. I don't have a date yet. Still recharging from this one! (Actually still doing housekeeping from this one, haven't had the chance to put it down yet.)

Tampa Oddcon - October 8th - 10th http://tampabay-oddcon.com/ I will be a guest. Several Idolers will be there doing a panel and the published ones will be signing copies of their books. It's going to be the largest in person gathering of Idol folks since, well, since ever. Times are tough, but I hope that anyone who *is able* to make it comes out! Come on - FLORIDA in October! You know you want to do it!! :) UPDATE:Unfortunately due to circumstances outside our control apparently Oddcon has been postponed. As soon as a new date is set in stone, I will announce it.

Idol Musings - http://fey-publishing.com/joomla15/ It's a really good collection of entries from previous seasons of Idol. There has been discussions of a second volume in the not so distant future.

*looks over list*

I think that's it for now. Other than my traditional "if you want to thank Idol" list, but no one ever really wants to hear that! :P

Congratulations again to [livejournal.com profile] beautyofgrey and to everyone who came out and participated this season.

The bar is open, so is the buffet.

If you have been waiting for that chance to friend people/post an open invitation for people to friend you, this is a really good chance to do so!

If you have been on the sidelines watching - and wanted to jump in and intereact/friend people - this is a GREAT chance to do it, especially if you are considering signing up for Season 7!

Have fun! Mingle! Make sure to friend those people you have been holding off on friending! Have fun (a second time)! And most of all, take care of each other (and yourselves).

Thank You

Craig Finn, the lead singer of the Hold Steady has something that he says almost every night just before the last song.

He admits that it's cliched, but also that it's true.

The first time I heard him say it, I liked it. The more that I've heard it though, the more that I realized that it fit my experience with LJ Idol as well.

" THERE IS SO MUCH JOY in what we do up here!"

Idol brings me joy, each and every day, and I hope that some of that joy made it's way into your life as well.

Thank you so much to all of you for taking the time, and expending the energy this season, to continue to make this such a special experience.

It means more than you can ever fully know.

Dreslinski Out.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's official.

It came right down to the wire, just like everyone was predicting that it would. Breaking refresh keys all over the world.

The winner of LJ IDOL SEASON 6 is [livejournal.com profile] beautyofgrey!

Second place goes to [livejournal.com profile] rattsu who put up an EXTREMELY fierce and worthy battle all season long.

Congratulations to both of you.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
All good things come to an end.

Even Season 6.

But you still have a chance to make a difference in the outcome! http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/375570.html

Apparently there were a couple birthdays over the last couple of days - so Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] zia_narratora and [livejournal.com profile] darkprism. It seems appropriate with the latter given that she was in the finals last season and that the former was someone frequently mentioned as a contender to get here herself.

TODAY happens to be the birthday of Season 1 semi-finalist [livejournal.com profile] lebonheurbum who battled it out in a pitched back and forth, with tie-breakers coming into play, finally receiving third place. Given the status of that final poll, this seems especially fitting.

It's apparently ALSO [livejournal.com profile] walkertxkitty's birthday as well!!

So Happy Birthday - and belated birthdays - to all. And Happy Birthday to everyone who has a birthday over the next few months while we will be away!!

Settle in for the day, raise a glass to the Finalists, and let's have one more Green Room before we need to move everyone out of here and into the Banquet Room down the hall. (Giving [livejournal.com profile] kithan a chance to pressure wash this room. It's gotten kind of sticky!!)

Hope everyone is doing well.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

We've come a long way together since that first poll.

Some days it seems like forever, and some days it seems like, well, OK, it still doesn't feel like yesterday.

But a lot less than "forever".

Here we are though, it was all leading up to this - the Final Two.

The last chance to clicky those clicky boxes.

It has been an amazing season and I hope everyone who was paying attention at any point will poke their heads back in here one last time to help us determine the winner. Because both of these competitors deserve to be here, and both would deserve to win. It's just a matter of which one of them the voters are going to select.

The final poll will close Monday August 9th at 9pm EDT, so it's a short window of time to make sure to get the word out but a long time when it comes to reading the final two entries. Hopefully everyone will take some of that to go back over their previous work this season to get a full appreciation of what makes them so very special.

Congratulations to both of you - and to all of us for getting to this point.

Good luck to us all!!!

The final stretch and our last couple of days together.

The results are in for who ended up leaving us, and who are our final two http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/374529.html

Raise your hand - who predicted this final back when we started?

That's the crazy, and wonderful, thing about all of this. Life happens to all of us during it. You've got to hold on when all you want to do is let go.

You've got to keep on writing even when you don't feel like it, when you'd rather just collapse somewhere.

These two have more than proven themselves, and completely deserve to be where they are at - and I hope they are planning on taking whatever it is that they were able to find during the process and apply it. (The market, life, wherever it is that they think that they can!)

Their thread is http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/374976.html

and a special thread where YOU, the Home Gamer and/or just plain interesting party can post links to your breakdown on Who Should Win is http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/375115.html

Hope everyone has their yearbooks and pens handy going into our last weekend of Season 6.

Bonus Entry

Aug. 5th, 2010 10:04 pm
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I said last week was the final "Home Game" entry.

It was.

Because the "Home Game" is where people who are not current contestants write the same topic as the people who will be facing the vote.

Obviously, this week that wouldn't even be vaguely appropriate. The spotlight is, and should be, theirs.

They have more than earned in.

But the rest of you out there in Idol-land, I have one last entry for you to participate in and link back.

Many of you have played the game - or at least have been following it for awhile.

You have strong opinions. I know you guys, you're never short on strong opinions. :p

So here you go - the entry/entries on your plate, the last of Season 6 is quite simply

Why [livejournal.com profile] beautyofgrey should be the next LJ Idol" AND "Why [livejournal.com profile] rattsu should be the next LJ Idol".

It's pretty straight forward. Just make your case!

Link them back here. Have fun with it.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
October 5th 2009 - The Sign Up Sheet for Season 6 was posted and people started to file in, many of them wondering "What the hell am I getting into this time?"

Among them - our two finalists [livejournal.com profile] beautyofgrey and [livejournal.com profile] rattsu.

August 5th 2010 - The final topic is posted to draw this season to a close, and still those two are wondering "What the hell did I get myself into this time?"

That topic? To the surprise of no one (especially when I've already mentioned the retro-Idol theme this season) the final topic is the traditional

Why I Should Win LJ Idol/Why My Opponent Should Win

One entry. Make your case *and* make the case for your opponent as well.

There are valid reasons for both of you, and now is time for you to exercise that writing ability we know you have to convince us to vote for your opponent. :P

Your deadline to link your last entry of Season 6 back to this thread is Saturday August 7th at 7pm EDT.

Good luck to both of you.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
What a wild ride!!! In the end, *no one* was completely safe. Which, considering the quality of all three of these contestants, is entirely appropriate.

Someone did have to go though, and this time it turned out to be [livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88.

What an AMAZING run though.

From the person who (if it had not been a "non elimination" round) WOULD HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED in Week 0 to becoming the highest ranking male contestant in LJ Idol history!

Not bad.

From the person who, due to technical difficulties, would have been automatically eliminated if not for the decision of his fellow contestants to keep him in, and thus not really given much of a chance of being able to pull it off in some circles- to go out just *2* votes shy.

Not bad at all.

Being a risk taker from Day 1 - skirting deadlines, embracing fiction and just all in all making the whole thing a lot of fun to watch! (if you call "giving me heart attacks" fun. If so, he was a hoot!! ;p)

One hell of a writer, and a truly great guy, is leaving us today.

Thank you for everything.
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Today is the final day to determine what the payoff of this season is going to be - what is going to happen after nearly 10 months, who will be facing off against each other in what is shaping up to be an incredibly talented and even more cordial finale! ("No, No, after YOU.." :p)

So make sure you read and vote for the contestant(s) who have put out work this week, and over the course of the season, that have made you want to see them in the finals. (Technically that's all three of them - but everyone has an opinion on that sort of thing and taste varies greatly)

Thanks to the decision yesterday in California, it looks like everyone will be require to marry someone who is gay.
Or become gay.

I'm not sure. It's very confusing. All I know is that those ultra liberal Reagan appointed activist judges are once again out of control with their progressive agendas! :)

Seriously though, I imagine that there will be appeals filed right until the Supreme Court decides to hear the case. Possibly going back and forth.

It's going to be an interesting debate to say the least. It's just sad that we have to have it.

[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There is still a poll going on http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/373611.html - and some entries to be read. Since they are all grouped together and thus we can't see individual statistics on what people thought of each individual entry - what was your favorite piece from each of them this week?

So how has the week treated you so far? What do you plan on doing this time *next* week?

[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

The Top 3 of Season 6. That magical place that so many have sought after and very few have achieved. 3 of them per season in fact!

Many people have indicated that they are happy to see these three in the finals.

I hate to break it to you. . .

There is a reason that this season's designs were so retro looking. There's a reason that there were two Gatekeeper rounds. That the Throwback topics that counted as intersections were in blocks of two. Heck, there's a reason there were throwback topics in the first place!!
Or that multiple topics tended to come in groups of twos. That the "twists" for this season were all slight variations on twists from older seasons and that there weren't very many of them.

There is also a reason why one of the topics this week was Back to Basics. If you go back through this season, there are a number of references to retro, and the number two keeps popping up.

Our first two seasons, that was the number of contestants who made it to the finals.

That is the case this season as well. (and yes, before you ask, that was also the reason for the Friday the 13th references I've made - because Idol is ending at the start of that week.)

Like last week, the link in the poll will lead you to the contestant's entries. Read them. Enjoy them, and please comment to let them know what you thought. Because everyone loves feedback.

Then vote for the ones you liked best overall, because the one with the fewest votes gets third place - and the other two advance to the finals!!

(*** Note: One of the the final three had a power outage. I emailed the other two to ask them what they thought of the situation, and that I would abide by what they thought was fair. As of this time, neither has responded. IF either one of them decides, within the next 24 hours, that that contestant should not be included, they will automatically be eliminated from this round, and we advance to the finals. I'm putting this one squarely in the hands of the people most impacted by it. ****) Word is in - these are the Top 3. Everyone is included. So choose wisely!

The poll will close, and the finals set, Thursday August 5th at 9pm EDT.
Good luck to everyone!

[Poll #1600953]
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good late morning/early afternoon!!

A special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kithan for keeping an eye on things this weekend and/or not banning everyone who didn't agree to send her bacon. Unless of course she did! I should probably go check that ban list. :P

Where was I? Glad you asked!

I was attending a family reunion in rural Ohio. How rural? The roads around the house have signs telling people to "travel at your own risk" and going out on the roads in better condition we ended up behind a Amish horse and buggy several times!

It was the first time my feet were on Ohio soil since the mid-80s!!

What have you folks been up to??? Hopefully the Top 3 have been writing their entries http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/372154.html considering that the deadline is Tonight!!

But what about the rest of you?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good morning and Happy Friday to you!

How are you doing? How has the week been working out for you?

How has the sugar been interacting with the smacks? The honey with the smacks? Do you dig 'em?

The topic thread for the 3 remaining contestants: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/372154.html
The final Home Game of Season 6 http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/372571.html

Idol fact: As of this week, [livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88 now holds the highest ranking of a male contestant in Idol history. (previously held by [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp who reached 4th) Congratulations!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's the final Home Game thread of the season!!

Which means if you've been sitting around going "I should write something for the Home Game" - this is the last shot!!

The Topics are

Making fire
I’ve got a rock
winding down
Back to Basics
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
We lost two more last night http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/371800.html and our down to our TOP THREE!

and the new topics went up - http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/372154.html

Bonus idea - less "topic" (unless you want to go that route) and more "I wasn't into this show when I planned out the season, but now I am" in Top Chef Masters, during the final three, they have a challenge for people to come up with dishes that represent three different periods of their development: Their first food memory, where they are as a chef at the moment, and where they want to go.

So *your challenge* for this bonus idea:

What was your first experience with writing? Where do you think you are with your writing right now? Where do you want to go with it?

And/or apply that idea to your time in Idol. Where were you when you signed up? Now? Where do you want to be 9 months from now in your development?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
We're down to The Top 3 out of the field of 241.

But enough of that! We've got work to do.

Not much. Just four entries this time. See? I'm nice!!! :)

Making fire
I’ve got a rock
winding down
Back to Basics

The two topics previously reserved for tie-breakers and a couple of new ones that are directly related to this season and where we are right now in it.

Your entries should be linked back here by Monday August 2nd at 9pm EDT

[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
They don't get much closer than that!!

Down to the wire and a handful of votes between in and out, and the second elimination being decided by *1* vote! Was it yours?

Since day 1 I've been saying that eventually everyone but 1 person is going to be eliminated. That feels more real every elimination.

Today we are saying goodbye to two extremely talented writers - who made it to 4th and 5th out of 241 contestants!!!

5th place - [livejournal.com profile] theafaye (who may be coming in first really really soon in her personal race! :D)
4th place - [livejournal.com profile] fourzoas

Thank you to both of you.

Hopefully we will continue to see you around for the remainder of the season to see how this shakes out (and back here next time???)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
"And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"

Oh yeah, I recognize it now! It's the poll! http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/370593.html

Today is your last chance to decide who the Top 3 are going to be!!! Make sure to read everything, comment to them if you have a few minutes (everyone loves comments) and vote for your favorites to stay in!

Happy Hump Day. How has your week been treating you so far?

It's funny, because every time lately that I've thought "oh, we don't need one today", I realize just how few Green Rooms we have left for until the door is shut and the room is closed for repainting/[livejournal.com profile] kithan needing to hose down the area to clean up! (Seriously people - the trash can is right over there!!) So hopefully we can make these last few times together good ones. :)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
There's still plenty of time to read the entries to choose who will be going forward into our Top 3 http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/370593.html but the time grows shorter! So go - read - comment - and vote for your favorites!!

A couple more goodbyes were posted last night - http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/371123.html For those curious about where they stand in the backlog - Remaining at the moment: 11 with tags (obviously the ones that require the least about of tracking down), 4 with partial tags, 2 without tags and 3 with all entries friends locked. So we're getting there! Slowly.

Because that's how we do Proud Mary. . .

Wait, that's "nice and rough".

So how are you doing this morning?
