The new poll for the main competition is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
Over in Second Chance we have the results from last week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
You know her writing from LJ Idol.
You know her other work from the movie Deadpool.
Now you can see more of what our own sra33 does for a living by going to theaters and watching the new live action Beauty and the Beast!
You were probably going to do it anyway. But if not, now you have an excuse!
Granted, the Idol audience is overwhelmingly female and perhaps the vast majority of you have read this before (or if you haven't, this isn't new territory. But (1) you never know who you might reach and (2) and this is the important one for me - despite the name this IS NOT a list of fallacies involving when you can and can not use the term "Dude", which may or may not be what I thought when I was half asleep this morning and clicked on the link.
Something that I will never mistake for something else, is this week's poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
I will also know where to find the Second Chance sign-up sheet: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
Want to keep me *extra* excited? Have me go over spreadsheets.
Want something that *actually* keeps my interest? Here's a poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
What about you? What about your job makes you want to put your head into an oven?
and then come back and let us know what you found that is worth talking about! :)
So what's going on in YOUR life? I *may* have big news coming up... still working out the details though...
Your deadline is TONIGHT http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
(pretty good ratio *so far*, but still a lot of names that still need to update! So get to it! *kicks you* )
and it's MLK Day.
I remember being in Virginia years ago and hearing that they had combined it into "MLK/Robert E Lee" day and thinking that someone *really* missed the point... or more likely, wanted to make a point of their own.
Friend of Idol (and current contestant) kathrynrose will be having a "Goal Setting Workshop" in the coming weeks http://kathrynrose.livejournal.com/
If you want to step up your writing game (outside of Idol) and need assistance and coaching for starting your 2017 off on the right foot writing-wise, this should be a great opportunity to do so.
People who know her well already know that she's really good at this. But for those who don't - this is a chance to find out exactly *how* good. :)
While I'm advertising things - I'll just remind people to use Idol's Amazon link for their holiday purchases: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20
and becoming a Patron has it's benefits: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027 (Including an extra bye - to give to someone else, and being able to send me a list of potential topics *for this season* (among others)
The deadline is TOMORROW NIGHT http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
One of my cats tends to get that classic "hair standing up and hissing" reaction when someone starts messing with her. (the other is far more mellow)
It's an intimidation tactic that seems to work for her.
Which got me thinking about what sort of intimidation tactics I've used over the years, to get people to stay away from me.
I know that in middle school and early on in high school I established myself as "that crazy guy". After getting picked on and bullied for quite some time in elementary and middle school due to being a stutterer I realized that if people think that you might not be "completely right in the head" that they tend to overlook things like "that guy doesn't talk right" and concentrate more on "that guy's crazy. Who knows what he might do. I'll go pick on someone else instead".
It was a more subtle form of social camouflage, but it put me in a position where (other an a couple times in 9th grade, I didn't have to get into any more fights and people - for the most part - left me alone.)
It's not as blatant as making someone think that I was going to hit them with a baseball. But it's still was MY way of "brushing them back". What's yours?
(and yes, this is totally me trying to motivate people who haven't posted yet)
Yes, there are a lot of byes. But there are also a lot of entries, and I prefer to concentrate on the positive!
Which means that there are a lot of really good entries out there that need your support. I hope you take the time to give it!
Work has been "interesting".
It seems to be a weird phase, because this crops back up every few months in ways that I've *never* seen it before. Maybe I'm just paying more attention now than I have before and this is *every* office. But there definitely seems a confusion/almost irritation at times that I won't take sides and join in. I just want to ignore everyone and run Idol... oh, I mean, *do my work*, and be left alone. But everyone else seems to want to be in everyone else's business.
For me, the last day of sign-ups/the last day of the deadline is like Christmas morning where I'm about ready to see what is under the tree! It takes a really long time to fully unwrap it, and see the winner inside. But the experience itself - and the anticipation of it, is always really exciting!
Currently, we are waiting for a little less than 100 people to post their Week 1 entry. I'm predicting that there will be some folks who forgot to follow the community and thus already missed the first topic. (one of the dangers of a "slow start" is that people could wander off) Knowing Idolers though, there is probably going to be that traditional rush to post in the last couple of hours!
Today is a "short day" at work. Although I'm not entirely sure *how* short it is going to be. (Rumors being notoriously inconsistent)
For those of you in the US, what sort of Thanksgiving plans do you have? For those who aren't - what sort of turkeys have you been dealing with this week?
Or maybe I'm considering what has been said and what I think will work with Season 10 (or just going forward in general)
It's one of those. I always forget which one!
Today is the last day to vote to decide who is going to be in the finale: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
Before that poll closes up - want to advocate for any particular entries?
What is it that is going on with your life right now that you really want to share with other people? What has caught your interest?
There is an #AskGary event over on Twitter if you are interested: https://twitter.com/therealljidol/
Sure, you could just ask me anything here, whenever you feel like it. But this is a special twitter thing! ;)
There's a hashtag! We don't have a hashtag here! #wedonthaveahashtaghere
Thank you to everyone who threw something into the hat. Just as a reminder to those who are still asking about it, Katie's graduation is tomorrow. Which means that anything donated *today* will go to her! Tomorrow? Not so much. So if you were one of those who wanted to give, today is your last chance: paypal.me/GDreslinski
and speaking of "Last Chance" - http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
Johnny Depp. Nothing to say about him that other people aren't already saying. But if you say "Johnny Depp" three times, people will appear to discuss him.
So, Johnny Depp...
Technically, it's the night before Christmas.
I can confirm this by the fact that I haven't heard a mouse stirring.
There is still a deadline next Monday: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
But in the meantime, why not make this into a Love Thread.
Yes. I just said "Love Thread".
Post the name of a current contestant as the subject line and then say something you like about them.
It's a cheap present, but maybe it will do someone some good.
I spent nearly a decade living alone and this time of year was always really difficult.
Why not make things a little better for someone?
*rant about racism*
*racist and sexist meme*
*rant about people spoiling the new Star Wars movie*
*post about the new Star Wars movie*
*post about not caring about the new Star Wars movie*
*pictures of kids*
*War on Christmas*
There. Now you don't have to check facebook!
Here at Idol all you have to hear about is those damn foreigners who are threatening to come over the borders to take our jobs and threaten our security and how we need to build a wall to keep them out... damnit, I'm going to have to sue someone for taking my "thing" aren't I? ;)
At least you can't get an old cranky guy yelling at the kids to stay off his lawn...
Damnit... I really think that US politicans need to start cutting me royalty checks!
But what you can't get anywhere else is some kickass entries: http://therealljidol.livejournal.c
That I can guarantee!
So make with the clickies for your favorites! (and spread to word!)
Well, less of the "good".
I'm not sure what to say about the events in Paris and Lebanon that other people haven't said far better. But I did want to acknowledge that our hearts are with them right now...
as well as those in Japan with the earthquake that I literally found out about as I was writing this.
It's times like these when we need to come together, and meaningless distractions can be a really good thing to have,
I don't have any meaningless distractions for you - all I have is LJ Idol, the single most important thing to ever be created on the Planet Earth, or anywhere in the solar system!
Sign-ups are still happening: http://therealljidol.
(How's that for a transition??? :D)
There are still 30some spots available - so let's get out and drag some more folks in so that we can start this as soon as possible! I know there are quite a few on the fence at the moment, so knock them over the head and drag them in!
I've got to say, it does end up getting to you.
The one good thing is that I also know that this is a really special event, and I hope that those of you who are taking the time to be here have been enjoying it.
I know that I've probably smiled more at the entries than I have in awhile. :D
For those counting at home - the current entry count is 19,979! Which means only 21 more entries until we hit 20,000!!
How has this week been treating you? Anyone else following the Stanley Cup playoffs? It's pretty big in our house. Mostly because the Lightning are playing for the Cup!
Is anyone out there excited for a mini-season in a few months?
It's another day in Idol Minor, and another Playground.
I'm glad to see people enjoying themselves, and the entries! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
It's the middle of the week. But more importantly, it's Wednesday - which, in my house, means it's Survivor day!
The Survivor finale in fact!
Of course, today is also the Stanley Cup Conference Finals Game 3 for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Which may mean that I'll be outvoted on what to watch!
How does "television scheduling" work in *your* house?
I will also not be serving different sex couples.
Couples in general.
People in general
Other life forms participating in Livejournal.
Other life forms participating in any form of social media.
Things that may or may not be considered "life forms"
Once this vote is over, I will not be serving anyone, for any reason... until of course it's time to start up again. :)
Until then though - there is still a poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
Heck, once this is over - I may follow that guy in California's lead and declare that it's OK to start shooting people I don't like! :)
Because any time you can come out of something knowing more than you walked in with is a good thing.
Of course, it's less of "Here is this knowledge" and more "I now have more questions". Which, hey, that can be a success as well.
Rather than "checking the internet", I figured that I would start by asking here - because there are a lot of folks here. (Not sure how many are actually, you know, reading and participating in Green Rooms, but I know a lot are at least scanning)
We volunteered with Equality Florida at the Florida Collegiate Pride Coalition Conference 2015.
In theory, this would have involved a lot of signature gathering. But we were the last shift, so everyone attending had already signed. So, instead, it involved going to the panels! There were a lot of good ones, I wish we had the time to attend more.
Old(er) white heterosexual cisgender male hanging out at a conference, listening to people tell their stories. It was pretty awesome - and I have to say that I felt extremely welcome in a way that I know they wouldn't feel in a room of people who fit my own basic profile. (Which, of course, is bullshit. They *should* be welcomed there as much as anyone else. But that's a different tangent)
The thing that I learned, was that there is a huge controversy (to the point that one of the participants in the group got *really* uncomfortable and tried to change the subject when someone asked about it saying that he had "seen it tear a room apart") about Allies using the term "coming out" when it comes to telling people about their support for the community.
Would have never crossed my mind to use it. But apparently there are people quite vocal on both sides of the issue.
So - what about YOU? Is this "coming out"? Or should people be using another term?
Of course, the only *real* transition here is this one - where I ask you who are YOU "coming out" to support in this week's poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/
It is TIGHT this week.
Any of the remaining contestants want to advocate for themselves?
Heck - any of them want to say why people *shouldn't* vote for you? :) ("I can't take anymore!!!")
