Please remember to properly (and promptly) refrigerate your food after cooking, and more to the point, make sure that people who are cooking food that you are going to eat a few days later do the same.

It was curry that took me out of commission. Which is only right and fitting (and the odds were in it's favor considering how much curry I eat)

Just look after yourself, because you don't want to be like I am today. You just don't. :O

What you DO want to do is be the kind of person who votes in the Second Chance poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/996359.html It's closing tonight, which really big stakes. We are losing 1/3 of the field. It's pretty close over there, so I would definitely make sure to get your votes in. One or two could shift the balance and change the outcome!

****

Also closing tonight is the deadline to get your entries in for the main competition: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/997016.html

There's still quite a few missing, but I'm hoping that's just the last minute crowd doing their usual thing.

How are YOU feeling today?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Tomorrow is the deadline for the Second Chance poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/996359.html where people will be fired, like Brad's wife.

It's also the deadline for new entries to be posted for the main competition: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/997016.html I guess like the opposite of Brad's wife.

Either way, there is an internet meme involved! So everyone post thousands of comments! Even if it's one that's several days old, it's still "timely", right? Right? *kicks you* Right????
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It used to be that if I were even a little bit late posting a Green Room, people would be upset. If there was a day when one didn't go up at all, I'd have a dozen emails, at least.

I got completely swamped at work and life in general has been pretty overwhelming - and 1 person checked in on me. Thank you to that person. :)

I'm doing OK.

How are you?

It also occurs to me that part of the reason for that email was because most of us were already friends. Whereas, even 13 weeks in there are people that I'm not certain actually know each other very well.

So how about it? What are some stuff about you that folks might be surprised to learn? (that you feel like sharing)

Or just ask something you'd really like to know about your fellow contestants! (and those lurking)

***

People might be surprised to learn that the Second Chance poll is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/996359.html and that the main competition topic is up as well: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/997016.html But that would just prove they haven't really been paying attention. Because I've mentioned those things before!

It's Week 13.

One of the things that I liked about this week's topic http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/997016.html (beyond the obvious, that folks may remember that it was posted above the door when they first signed up) was that there are different translations of the same line.

So differences in translations is definitely one of the many ways to go that aren't as "obvious".

I'm giving you that one for free. ;)

***

I know that personally, when I sit down and write, there's definitely a part of me that "abandons hope" and doesn't come out until I'm done with whatever I'm working on, which is when the self-doubt shows up. You?

How do you deal with it?
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good evening.

For some of you at any rate.

For others, this journey of Season 10 is at an end. Well, hopefully the bigger journey - that of continuing to write and explore their talents, to push themselves - and of course to do so as part of the Home Game, while cheering for their personal favorites still in the hunt!

4 people are leaving this week, but we already know who one of them is, because of the sacrifice in the Voting post itself.

Our sacrifice is the mighty [livejournal.com profile] sestinaqueen

Joining her are

Thank you so much for coming out this season and for making it special. This is a really good group of people assembled here for our 10th season and I hope that you will continue to be a part of that.

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

The Week 3 poll of Second Chance Idol is here.

They are operating without a safety net with one goal in mind - getting back into the game! From what I’ve seen, I think those who survive this are going be stronger than ever when they eventually get back into the main competition.

Did I say “eventually”? I meant that there is a max of two more weeks for Second Chance. It’s getting down to the wire.

5 contestants are going to be leaving us this week. That’s a third of the field.

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites!

The poll closes Tuesday, March 28th at 9pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

[Poll #2065143]
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Today will mark the end of the Idol road for some in the main competition http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995007.html and the beginning of the next chapter in the quest to get back into the hunt for others http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995134.html

So make sure your voice is heard!

What have you read that makes you go - EVERYONE should be reading this!! Especially if you look at the poll and see that it doesn't have "enough" votes? It's a closed community vote, so the numbers are going to be a little different. In theory, they shouldn't be. Because anyone can sign up and join the community. But there are always people who don't do that. Which is why it's interesting to narrow things down a bit. it's kind of like how Gary-only voting is going to be awesome when it finally happens!!! :)

How are you doing today?

Anyone watch Survivor last night? If so, how are you doing today? ;)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I don't game.

Other than LJ Idol of course.

I've been known to watch people play video games and be perfectly happy. I'm just not very good at them.

I enjoy playing Galaga. But I'm not very good at it. The same goes for skee ball, but that's not really the same "sort of game" we're talking about. :) (I'm "OK" at both, but I keep getting reminders that my skill set may be lacking these days, whenever it is that I do play)

There is one game though that I used to really love playing. If you'd asked me a couple weeks ago, I probably couldn't have told you. Because I'd forgotten. But thanks to an app on my phone, I have rediscovered the obsession of SimCity.

I am currently trying to manage between a traffic crisis and a lack of police in several, spread out, areas. (I *just* got the trash/sewage back under control and I'm good for power and water for at least a little bit)

It's only been two days of playing - but I'm already back into the thick of my obsession. (and yes, I'm sure there are "cheat codes" out there - and I know they have in-game purchases but I have an in-wallet vacuum and even if I didn't, I'm quite sure I don't want to go down that particular black hole)

The only game I ever played with "cheat codes" was the PC-version of Civilization? Why? Because I loved nuking small towns and villages. Or rolling over primitive civilizations with tanks. Yes, I am truly the white cis-male people have warned you about. :D (at least in that particular game)

Other games that I used to enjoy - Star Trek Engineering (it was some Star Trek game, but I played with two friends - one would take the controls for the away missions, one handled the space battles and I kept the ship going and supplied in the engineering department - and no, I didn't get "stuck with it" either, that was my choice...), Super Traitor (Not sure what the game actually was, some sort of Desert Storm mission game. It became Super Traitor because I would shoot up my own guys, hospitals, media trucks, etc...); and of course, Super Space Traitor (See above, but it was a space game where I'd turn around and try to blow up my own base) I was obviously a troubled teen!

With SimCity though - and this is definitely as true, if not more so, brings out my compassion of wanting to help my citizens. I take all of the compassion that I should feel for Idolers and give it to little dots on my phone! :D

***

There is no compassion happening in the poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995007.html so if you want to give some to your favorites - now would be the time to do that.

The only way to for any hope at all for the Second Chancers is to get their entries i by tomorrow night http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995134.html
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
I don't have anyone specific to praise today - unless of course you count the work being done in this week in the poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995007.html

Have you checked it out yet? Any stand-outs that you want to give a little extra love to, in the form of a shout-out in the Green Room?

***

We also have the Second Chance topic up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995134.html but there's nothing currently there to praise. Unless you really like wide open spaces! ;)
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
Good almost afternoon. :)

The new poll for the main competition is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995007.html

Over in Second Chance we have the results from last week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/994701.html, the new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/995134.html and something to celebrate!

You know her writing from LJ Idol.
You know her other work from the movie Deadpool.

Now you can see more of what our own [livejournal.com profile] sra33 does for a living by going to theaters and watching the new live action Beauty and the Beast!

You were probably going to do it anyway. But if not, now you have an excuse!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
It's Week 3 of Second Chance, as the field is narrowing and the time to get into the main competition is getting closer.

There's only one way to get to that point though, and it's the same path as this particular topic:

Getting to Carnegie Hall

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

There’s some really sad “bye-outs” this time. I’m even going to try to pull that punch. There are some really talented people leaving us this week, and some good friends to Idol.

Goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] belenen, [livejournal.com profile] fading_light, [livejournal.com profile] morettaallstar and [livejournal.com profile] xo_kizzy_xo.

Thank you for coming out this season and helping to make it special. I hope we will continue to see you around, rooting for and supporting your favorites - and in the Home Game!

As for the rest of you, in some ways it feels like we have been together for awhile. But in others, for me at least, it’s like the game is still taking shape. I just realized that we are now (as of this poll) breaking the point when we have fewer people than participated in Season 3! And there were a lot of things that ended up happening during the course of Season 3, so I know there’s a lot more to come here! :)

This week was a little extra “Salty”, so I thought it was a good time to pull out a “Community only vote”. You need to be a member of the LJ Idol community in order to cast a vote this time around. But guess what? Anyone can do it! It’s really easy to join the community, and that just means that you will get notifications when a new post happens. Well, if LJ is working properly you will (and if you don’t unclick wherever that box is that asks if you want notifications. I assume it’s still a thing)

Anyway, there will be 4 more contestants leaving us this week.

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites! And tell a friend! Or 3!

The poll closes Thurs, March 23rd at 9pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

If you haven't figured out that polls in Season 10 are going to be decided by only a couple votes, you haven't been paying attention.

This week in Second Chance was no exception to that rule. 3 veterans and 1 newbie are leaving us this week.

Chuck Berry is dead.

I was lucky enough to see him perform once. He was absolutely incredible. (Pretty sure the only reason why he was doing it was as part of his community service - since it was a free show and he didn't allow any cameras there)

It's strange, because it's literally a case of "Old guy dies". Which is kind of what happens. He lived a long life and added so much to the world of music during the time. It still ends up being a bit of a surprise. Like that thing you expected would happen - heck, I'm sure some people thought it happened years ago - and when it does you still have to take a moment, because damn, you are now living in a world without Chuck Berry, and that takes some adjustment...

Honestly, it's kind of like my grandparents (in a more detached way of course) well, I knew they would old and would die soon - but there's that part of you that just can't process living in a world where they aren't around, so it kind of goes into the back of your head and you just don't think about it, until suddenly you have to...

I'm sure every one has someone (or a situation like that).

***

I've started watching Iron Fist. So far it's decent, but I keep hearing the bad reviews, so that's kind of hanging over it.

Of course, a lot of the bad reviews started during the casting, and that people have been rooting for it to do poorly. So I'll see for myself if it's any good or not. If it's not, it certainly won't be because I didn't come in with a (mostly) open mind about it.

In honor of St Patrick's Day, It's time we finally implemented this: http://art-bin.com/art/omodest.html !!

Or chased some pagans out of their homes.

Or maybe just eat some Lucky Charms! Harass and assault people for not wearing green?

What are YOUR favorite ways to celebrate the day?

When you put your hopes and dreams out into the universe, sometimes the answer is "No".

How do you deal with that? Especially when it's something you consider to be fundamentally important?

***
Not as important as these links, obviously. But still, pretty important...

The new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/993116.html
The Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/993488.html

It's the start of another Idol week, which means there's a ton of links to share, so let's get to it!

The results from last week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/992806.html
The new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/993116.html
The Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/993488.html
and the Second Chance poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/992643.html

Maybe that's not "a ton". Unless of course you are printing it out on something really heavy. In which case, it weighs as much as you want it to weigh!

I was going to publish my tax returns from 2005 today. But apparently everyone is doing that these days, and besides, I didn't want anyone to injure themselves from laughing *that* hard!
[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com
The results from last week are up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/993116.html

and Second Chance is on it's way with a brand new week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/992643.html

Which seems like a good time to remind everyone that as things start getting closer to the Top 50, that every vote is going to become more and more critical. If there is someone that you want to read more of, make sure you get out there support them. They are going to need you.

***

I just finished the latest issue of Champions (#6). It's from Marvel Comics and features a group of young heroes who are trying to define the idea of being a hero for a new generation. I really loved the first four issues, the fifth threw me a little - but with the sixth, I'm going to have to decide if I really want to go forward with it, or put it in the pile of "this book isn't for me".

Mark Waid is writing it, and I used to be a big fan of his back when I was a regular comic collector. The first few issues definitely proved that he's still really entertaining and engaging.

What threw me off? The new villains introduced in the issue started talking about how they "always punch down". Which was a counterpoint to the Champions (earlier) saying that you should "punch up". I get the idea behind it, but especially coming out the mouth of the bad guys, it just sounded over-the-top and not believable. They were certainly doing enough on the panel itself to show that they were the bad guys and that they would harm those less able to defend themselves. But Waid went a step further and had them vocalize it, just in case there was someone who didn't get it. Sure, there have always been the bigger-than-life hackneyed villains who spout all kinds of cheesy lines, and I'm sure that's exactly what he was trying to achieve. But the combination of over-the-top and "here's our agenda" really just left me feeling like perhaps I wasn't the audience they were looking for with this book. Which, to be fair, I'm NOT the audience they are looking for with this book. ;)

Far more to the point than "will Gary buy another issue of this comic" though is that I thought about writing "your agenda" in fiction, and how much of it in your own work comes from "and THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SAY" and how much is subconscious that just comes out? Do you ever have to pull back from hitting people in the face with it, or are you far more likely to just let loose with it and let the chips fall?
